If you haven’t discovered Sporcle.com, you probably are a lot more productive than I am. The site lets you create and fill out customized quizzes. The sports section is pretty cool.

If you click here, you can take the AL MVP quiz. How many AL MVPs can you name? I pulled off 56 of 79 before giving up. If you click here, you can see some of the embarrassing names that I couldn’t come up with. I’ll be kicking myself for a few days over 1950.

No cheating!

That was fun, EJ. I’d like to see more of these. I dont know how to link it, but I beat you….by one. I got 57. The ones that I missed I probably would never have gotten. Fun, fun, fun.

And I just looked at your list. We missed many of the same guys. I’m going to bet that nobody gets much more than 60.

  2. Matt Imbrogno says:

    I got exactly 60.

    I missed 1937, ’43-45, ’48, ’50, ’52-’53, ’58-’59, ’65-’66, ’71-’72, ’74, ’79, ’81, ’84, and ’87.

  3. MJ says:

I got 58 of 79 because I couldn’t freakin’ spell Carl Yastrzemski. I would’ve gotten 60 if I could’ve remembered Mickey Cochrane’s last name (I knew it was Mickey something because Mantle’s dad named him after Cochrane).

The only reason I got ’44/’45 is because he’s one of the answers to my favorite baseball trivia question of all time:

You can go around the horn with back-to-back MVP’s. Newhouser is the only one to do it as a pitcher. The rest are Barry Bonds, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Dale Murphy, Joe Morgan, Ernie Banks, Mike Schmidt, Frank Thomas, Jimmie Foxx and Yogi Berra.

When stuck, I believe Montero is the universal answer.

  5. SAT says:

Fun quiz. I got 62, and couldn’t remember Mo Vaughn or Hank Greenberg, both of whom I should have remembered. Carew and Newhouser are the only others I had a chance at.
