I realize this is Yankeeist’s fifth Nick Johnson-related post in the past week, but after yesterday’s moves shrunk the market I can’t help but notice that sentiment for a Nick the Stick return to pinstripes across Twitter, blog comment sections and blogs themselves is growing quickly.

Don't like this move, and I don't like the echo-chamber effect I'm seeing where every Yankee fan connected to a broadband line is clamoring for Nick Johnson like he's Lou effing Gehrig all of a sudden. He's a fine player in those comparatively rare instances when he can walk on two feet. The man has been in the league since '02 and has had more seasons significantly shortened by injury than full, productive seasons.
Where's the full-throated unison Yankee Universe call for them to go all-out and get Holliday? Far as I'm concerned, if we sign him, you could rustle Luis Sojo out of retirement, slot him in the 2 hole, and we'll still repeat as World Champions.
Brendan pretty fair point, Holliday would make the lineup easily the best in baseball and I am not completely sold on Nick Johnson as the DH. Sometimes people make way too much out of these offensive numbers. That being said what is the actual market for Nick Johnson? I haven't heard one rumor of him signing with anyone.

I obviously can't argue against Johnson being injury-prone, but I'm willing to gamble on him staying healthy as a Yankee considering he won't have to play the field.
I like Holliday too for the Yanks, in case you didn't see the post from the other day with my hypothetical 2010 lineup. However, Holliday seems less likely to happen, given the number of dollars and years.
As previously stated, my ideal scenario is for the Yanks to bring in both Holliday and Johnson. But if I had to pick one, I think I'd rather Johnson on a short-team deal than Holliday for thousands of years.
Cashman has said that he wants a DH who can play LF. He has ruled out the expensive Holliday. ISTM that Cashman is focused on getting Damon, but at a lower price than Damon is currently asking. I think the Yanks will eventually sign Damon at around 2 years and $11 million/year.
Nick Johnson should be less likely to get injured if he doesn't play the field. I'd rather the Yanks sign Nick Johnson for a lot less than what Damon will cost, but that doesn't seem to be Cashman's thinking.
