Ouch
This will take some getting used to. Best wishes, Hideki. Unless of course you’re playing the Yanks.

Sad day…I can just imagine the ovation he will receive when he returns to the stadium…shame we did not get the chance to say good bye
Very. Hideki was always one of my faves.
I think a lot of people said goodbye at Game 6. It’s funny that prior to Game 6 everyone was saying that this was probably his last game. After Game 6 everyone was saying it was a great way to say goodbye. And then once he signed with the Angels all I’ve heard people say was it was a mistake to let him go.
My favorite were fans calling for Cashman’s head during the season for not trading him to San Francisco. Funny how one game changes people’s opinions huh?
Just doesnt look right
A class act that will be missed.
Definitely sorry to see him go. Frankly, I don’t understand why Cashman sat on his wallet on this one. $6M is a bargain for an everyday DH that just dropped a 133 wRC+.
Definitely. I hope we won’t be saying all year, “boy do we miss HM”.
Because we will be saying that if we replace him with a scrap heap rethread like Nick Johnson, who would also be MIA for extended different periods, when we needed his bat.
I can’t understand not getting HM at half his 2009 salary. Unless the Yankees were given a different price.
Nick Johnson is hardly a retread. Don’t forget Matsui spent some time on the DL the past two seasons too. I am a big fan of his but he’s not some young buck who was always healthy.
As for why Cashman didn’t bring him back, perhaps he knows a little bit more about his balky knees then we do, perhaps?
Johnson is pretty re-treaded the guy has had DL stints every year since he has been called up minus for 2 and one of those was his rookie year and the other was his only 600 AB season.
We’ll just agree to disagree on Johnson’s value. And as much as I like Matsui, I dont think money was an issue at all, but I suspect Cashman has no faith in Matsui’s knees for 2010.
Matsui will be missed dearly IMO, the WS MVP. He deserves a standing ovation at the Stadium when he comes. He was a class act. Cash, WHAT WERE YOU DOING TO LET THIS SLIP AWAY?
