Holliday Likely Off The Table
From Buster Olney:
Sources: The Cardinals’ offer to Holliday is believed to be over $100 million.
I am sorry, Chris, but it seems like your hope for a Holliday miracle will not be fulfilled. I never saw the Yankees getting involved on Holliday, but as the offseason proceeded, it looked like he might be had for a song. It would not have shocked me to see Brian Cashman swoop in at the last moment to steal the best hitter on the market for a bargain rate. However, a deal of at least 5 years and 100 million is much too high for the Yankees to get involved. They simply have too many long term commitments to make one of that value to a left fielder.

As I said earlier in the week, Johnny Damon. Johnny Damon, Johnny Damon and Johnny Damon. Cashman is playing this offseason like he is Phil Ivey and he is sitting at a poker table with a group of high school kids. The last team, as I can see it, that fits for Damon is the Braves. I can’t forsee them going much over a 1 year, 6-7 million dollar deal, and even THAT I think is no certainty. At the start I was hopeful of Holliday, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense to pass on a deal.
By the way guys, love the new layout. Sucks that all my awesome posts disappeared, lol. Did the Yankees decide to agree to your counter-proposal?
I agree on Damon. I think there is a pretty good chance he is a Yankee by the end of the winter.
Regarding the layout, thanks, and only comments from the last two days are gone, everything before that should still be there and still be awesome. We will have a post up about the move at some point soon.
forget holliday, it would be a hugh blunder to tie up all those $s and years.. the guy proved he belongs in the NL.. also let damon stay at boras’s house this summer and watch the games on the MLB network..they are getting a taste of abreu mentality.i want 16 mil.. ok …. i’ll take 5…for 1 year.. see how he can play when there is no long term contract..he actually tried to catch balls near the wall. lets stay pat and open the season the way we are now..add russo and pena and you guys now the rest..
As nice as it would’ve been to steal Holliday, I’m OK with not getting him. Cliff Lee next year is more important than Matt Holliday this year.
Agreed, although I’m afraid Lee coming off the big year I expect in front of that defense in Seattle will want a huge deal.
He already wants a huge deal and I’m prepared to give it to him. The man can pitch!
