It’s time for a predictions thread, so chime in with your playoff bracket in the comments. Ours seem to look pretty similar to one another, so I grouped together the identical predictions. Here are ESPN’s predictions as well.

Tom, Rebecca, Moshe:

Division Series
Yankees over Twins
Angels over Red Sox
Phillies over Rockies
Cardinals over Dodgers

LCS:
Yankees over Angels
Cardinals over Phillies

WS:
Yankees over Cardinals

EJ, Eric:

Division Series
Yankees over Twins
Red Sox over Angels
Phillies over Rockies
Cardinals over Dodgers

LCS:
Yankees over Red Sox
Cardinals over Phillies

WS:
Yankees over Cardinals

It seems like everyone likes the Yankees and Cardinals, with Wainwright and Carpenter obviously being major factors in that decision. What do you think? Do you see something else happening, or will the favorites take each series?

That world series prediction i think is a lil optimistic….we sweep the cards beat both carpenter and wainwright? I dont think we get the trohpy that easily…id say yanks over cards in 6

      • The other Chris H says:

That’s why it’s not your opinion… I can be as optimistic as I want and if I could have them winning in 3 I would do that, everything else is based off fact and reason but the world series prediction is my homer time my homer time. :)

        • The other Chris H says:

However if you do want to look at it realistically then you can say if CC is CC than he is better than Carpenter (and has faced better competition) and would have similar numbers and more wins in the NL so that is a match up we can win and if Burnett gets on a role in the playoffs and doesn’t have inconsistent performances than he has the pure stuff to beat wainwright and then you have Pinero who Pettitte will probably be favored over and then finally CC for game 4 to clinch or Joba against their 4th stater and if he doesn’t lose it our offense can win against a 4th starter, so it could technically happen I wouldn’t count on it but it could.

Lol, and my opinion is that ur opinion is optimistic but i can respect it, i would love for the yanks to win in 3 in some alternate universe you created :P

          • The other Chris H says:

In my universe I was kind of hoping to petition MLB to ban Chris Carpenter as a performance enhancing drug!!

Watching the Phillies play the Rockies in game one it’s got me wondering, how well would Ubaldo Jiménez translates to the AL and the AL East? He has the fastball that runs up to 99 and 100 on occasion so you know he could pitch in the AL but never being able to have less than a 3.4 ERA facing a pitcher every 9 spots it makes me wonder if he would still have ace potential in a more hitter friendly league.

    • The other Chris H says:

In my mind he is comparable to AJ Burnett this year in all areas but one…

      Burnett- 33 GS, 207 IP, 193 H, 93 ER, 195 Ks, 97 BB, 1.40 WHIP, .247 BAA, 4.04 ERA… VS. LEFT: .217/VS. RIGHT: .282

      Jimenez- 33 GS, 218 IP, 183 H, 84 ER, 198 Ks, 85 BB, 1.23 WHIP, .229 BAA, 3.47 ERA… VS. LEFT: .251/VS. RIGHT: .206

As you can see the numbers are somwwhat comparable especially when you consider it’s the NL Vs. the AL but the one main difference throwing the comparison off is that Jimenez does most of his damage against right handed pitchers and Burnett kills lefties with that Curveball.

That’s right Eric. Team Pending Pinstripes for the win.

  4. Tom Gaffney says:

I could definitely see the Phils making it to the series, with Lee and Hamels, but Hamels doesn’t look like the same pitcher lately. If he puts it together, with their offense – juggernaut.

    • The other Chris H says:

Yeah but I think that it’s a pretty big IF, and even if he does establish himself he just doesn’t have the boy of work this year to suggest he can be who he was last year this post season. There is a reason he didn’t start game 1.
