Here are two quick news items as we await a perfect game from CC Sabathia.

  • Steve Swindal, the one-time son-in-law of George Steinbrenner (he and Jennifer Steinbrenner were married and then divorced), and former general partner/chairman of Yankee Global Enterprises LLC, is opening a baseball academy in the Dominican Republic. Swindal and J. Steinbrenner are reportedly trying to get back together.
  • According to Jon Heyman who cites a report in the San Diego Union-Tribune, Billy Eppler, the director of professional scouting in the Yankees organization, is rumored to be a candidate for the Padres GM job, though San Diego has yet to contact the Yankees about interviewing him. Jed Hoyer, the assistant GM to the Red Sox is also being considered.

That’s that. I’ll be posting lineups shortly.

  1. So if we get Towers with our organization and the Padres hire Eppler as the GM we could have an inside track on some Padre trades… If they have anyone worth trading for… I know we were interested in Heath Bell at the All Star Break but they asked for to much.

The Padres have nothing outside of a few relievers and Adrian Gonzalez. But, hey, maybe if Towers is on board, he’ll be able to dish on what the Sox were willing to offer for Gonzalez around the trade deadline.

      • To bad Gonzalez doesn’t provide anything to our organization with Tex at first and Alex at 3rd but Heath Bell could be a set up man for us for a few years, I don’t know how much trust I put in his numbers coming to the AL but Gaudin translated well so who knows.

Maybe we can work out a 3 way trade in which Gonzlaez goes to another team and we get a LFer or some high end reliever or something and we can prevent the Sox from getting Adrian while upgrading our own team haha.

Adrian Gonzalez to the Mariners and we get Felix haha with prospects from us and the Padres going to the Mariners.

        • Chris H. says:

I don’t mind just knowing what the Red Sox are willing to part with. The pieces they’re willing to give up in a trade. That’s enough info to help the Yankees if they’re attempting to up the price or if they’re actually interested in a player.
