I touched briefly on how the Yankees’ pitching carried the day yesterday, and RAB’s Joe dissects it even further in the penultimate link. On the flip side, the Yankees’ offense outside of A-Rod, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada was pretty brutal in the ALDS — Johnny Damon in particular has really struggled since the beginning of September, as Ben points out.

    the lack of top-to-bottom offense isn't really a problem as long as the pitching is working

    during the 2001 WS, the Yankees as a team hit .183/.240/.288/.528 (read: worse than Jose Molina) for the entire series and still were winning in the middle of the 9th in Game 7
