Well I’ll be the first to admit that Pavano is dealing, however it also looks like he is trying to prove something and he is putting everything he has into making each pitch. He is doing well but lets see if he can maintain it the second and third time through the line up.

The Yankees seem lose out there… Swisher thinking he got a walk and what not but let’s hope they aren’t over confident reading their own headlines, that is the only thing that can kill this team… and that is this team’s ego that has been in check all year.

    • OldFan says:

I’ve heard enough kudos for Pavano from the TBS announcers to last a year, or two.

Let’s just accept that he’s always going to pitch good against us, but we can beat him late

  2. The other Chris H says:

Alex Rodriguez once again!!!! Down 1-0 against Pavano dealing Alex works a 3-2 count and duels Pavano, taking time, fouling off pitches all after a 0-2 count and then he goes the other way with a solo bomb to tie the game… Alex is now 5-5 after the 6th inning and has 3 hits (2 HRs) to tie the game and every one of his post season hits have driven in at least one run.

Andy has pitched a much better game than could have been asked of him, if Hughes and Mo can hold it at the end there may be 3 sweeps in the Division Series after all.

  3. The other Chris H says:

Once again Chamberlain is throwing pretty well in relief but he is only throwing 94-95 with this shor almost cutter like slider at 88, he is doing good in this role but he is not the Joba of 07 in relief. Have the Joba questions been answered to anyone this post season/season? To me nothing has been made any more clear, I say give him a strict training regiment this off season and have him come in strong and in shape to throw 200 innings in the 4th starting role, and then take it from there depending on roster/rotation/prospects and FAs.

  4. The other Chris H says:

Heads up play by Jeter to go home instead of first and a great throw by Posada to throw Punto out going back to third! Hughes needed a break he got one, now get out of your head and pitch.

    • OldFan says:

In playoff games, Derek is the master magician of the infield.
He is always aware of what is going on, and is constantly alert to an opportunity to cut the opposition’s legs off.
How many times—How many times –have we seen him do this?

      Tom G.

  5. The other Chris H says:

Hughes looks like he has no confidence on the mound… his eyes just don’t show belief in his abilities and throwing to first as much as he is has nothing to do with Span!

    • OldFan says:

Agree, but you know–it’s amazing that the Yankees have been able to work around Hughes ineffectiveness in two straight games and still win both.
On most teams, 5 straight baserunners for your 8th inning guy, over 2 games, usually spells disaster.
I think Joe G. deserves some credit in been able to manage around him, at the right moment.

Joe Mauer meet Mariano Rivera’s cutter…

    • OldFan says:

I noticed Joe Mauer sitting in the dugout, at the end, watching the Yankees celebrate in a low key, classy way.

You’ve got to wonder if its ringing any bells in his head, when he reaches free agency.

I think he did say earlier, “I want to be somewhere where I can win”.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I would love watching about 6 years of Mauer, Tex, Arod in our lineup.

      Tom G.

      • The other Chris H says:

HE is going no where! He will give Minnesota the home town boy discount, he is from only a couple miles away from there and I doubt he wants to win anywhere but the Twins, he is their face of the franchise he can’t be that in NY.

        • OldFan says:

Chris, I am aware of all of that—but–you never know.

I can envision a scenario, or two, where he would play in NY.

          Longshot–yeah, you’re right.

One can dream of a St. Paul boy (just across the river) playing for a NY team to win a long elusive WS title. (and get’s paid, let’s say, $42M ADDITIONAL over 6 years). Just as Posada goes to DH and backup catcher, and a young Montaro gets DH, 3rd catcher and other AB’s.
          Yeah, it’s a long shot.

          Ahhh–Dreams, dreams, dreams.

          • The other Chris H says:

I think that is all they are though, some guys just don’t seem like guys out to just get money and a guy like Mauer is one of them. Besides him and Morneau make as good a 1-2 hitting punch as there are in the league…. but your right I guess you never know.

I can’t believe we have to wait for Friday when both teams have already swept their opponents.

            Sabathia Vs Lackey
            Burnett Vs Weaver
            Pettitte @ Kazmir
            Sabathia @ Lackey/Saunders

Should be a real tough and exciting series… watch for Gardner to have a big part in a Yankees win if won happens.

            • OldFan says:

You’re 100% right–Joe Mauer is not a mercenary-type guy. He is a hometown, down earth, upper midwest boy, and is loved for it in Minnesota.

But when there is an offer on the table, and one is thinking of the right thing for the security of one’s family, and one wants to win before you are old,
              –you just never know.

  7. The other Chris H says:

The Yankees win!! It’s great for a lesser team but this is just step two in the big picture of what this season means and up next is the toughest competition we have this year the Angels!

No doubt MVP of the 2009 ALDS for the Yankees Alex Rodriguez… 5 hits, 6 RBI, 2 HRs and 3 of his hits tied the game.

    • OldFan says:

I’m so happy for Arod. It’s about time that he starts getting some love and recognition from the fans, too.
NY is a tough town and demands that its heros suffer a little bit before they accept them. It was the same for Mickey Mantle, and even Reggie and Joe D. a little bit.
Maybe now everybody can just relax and enjoy him.

      Tom G.

  8. The other Chris H says:

With Sabathia only pitching once in this series and not pitching again until Friday in New York it opens up the Yankees to pitch Sabathis on short rest in game 4 instead of Joba or Gaudin…

  9. Chris H. says:

They did it, boys! Great night.

    How about that A-Rod?

    • The other Chris H says:

I think the Angels pitchers are going to have a hard time keeping Alex from dominating again because looks like a man on a mission.

  10. The other Chris H says:

When was the last time there were 3 sweeps in division series play?
