Why do the announcers keep calling AJ’s Knuckle Curve a slider? The grips aren’t even close and really the break isn’t that close, you have to be really uniformed it drives me crazy!
More with this back door slider… He is obviously throwing a cure ball, first it’s between 78-82 MPH with downward break.
Nasty location on that breaking ball
Nasty location on those two back to back hit by pitches… Just hope these two hit batters don’t get in AJ’s head he’s been doing so well up to this point.
Heads up D by Swisher and a good job by Jeter on the tag to get the 3rd out before Delmon scored! I did not think Swisher was going to do anything but sail one to the catcher who had no shot at Young.
What a play by Swisher and Jetes!
No way you thought it wasn’t going to be 1-0 right? I was already cursing when Gomez got tagged out haha.
cursing AJ for beaning Gomez
Gomez and Young with 2 outs…
Ridiculous for AJ to hit Gomez, though (like a 270ish wOBA – pathetic). He’s perhaps the worst hitter in baseball. Thankfully, he’s also an idiot on the basepaths. Great job for Smith to get Gomez instead of Phil Hughes for Santana, huh?
It’s not like AJ did it on purpose, it looks like if limits the walks though they aren’t going to hit him hard at all tonight.
Yankees weren’t going to give all they wanted anyway so they had to get what they could… at least it wasn’t Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano and Kris Benson.
Getting a LOT LOT LOT of bad swings against Blackburn. Pop-ups and weak, weak grounders – cmon arod!
ugh – another weak, sissy grounder. Yanks too overanxious. Make this guy pitch to you!
3-day weekend upcoming, playoff baseball on, drinking a nice brew. Life is good.
yeah – that’s a spike curve, not a slider
They are killing me with this Slider stuff… At least know your scouting report, to start the game they said Burnett had one of the top 5 sliders in the game…
Another walk brings up Mauer with a man on but if he gets Mauer quickly he can end the 5th with 70 or so pitches, currently at 68 before the first pitch of this at bat.
EDIT: More two out, two on situations… C’mon Burnett…
2 HBP and 4 walks, 6 runners who didn’t have to hit their way on in 5 innings is unacceptable especially in the playoffs, against the Angels this could be a 4-0 game already!
At least he got out of it, he has good stuff tonight but come on with the free passes.
Matsui’s bat was pretty terrible, for a guy who takes the first pitch 90% of the time he swings at 85 MPH out of the zone and up…
Well at least the no hitter is broken up but the Yankees offense is really struggling to get anything going against Blackburn and his pitch count isn’t that high yet so they have to make some adjustments quickly…
5 walks really? This went from one of the most strike filled games AJ has had to one of the most wild games he has had while still pitching well in a matter of one inning.
WOW a triple that scores Delmon Young who was walk number 6 and you add two hit batters and that is 8 men put on base in less than 6 innings with out having to swing the bat… He is lucky this isn;t a 6-0 game at this point!
EDIT: at 95 pitches I would be surprised if Girardi sends Burnett back out, and even though he only gave up one run this was not a very good start by Burnett IMO. He had strike out/no hit stuff but he was all over the place after the first 2 innings and any time you put 8 runners on base with out a swing or an error but just by walking and hitting batters that isn’t a good start, Burnett is just lucky the Twins aren’t that good because this game should be at least 3-0 if not more around 6 or 7-0.
That ground rule double could have just stolen a triple… I have a feeling Jeter will be driven in, you don’t want to give Blackburn and the Twins confidence with the 1-0 lead and I think the Yankees feel that.
So Tex is going to start getting the “choke” headline over Alex if he keeps this 0 for in the playoffs up, but I thought that one pitch was gone but it just hooked foul… Now lets go Alex… Prove game 1 wasn’t an aberration.
HE DID IT! Alex Rodriguez has become clutch… LOOK OUT AMERICAN LEAGUE RODRIGUEZ IS BACK!
Well Joba Chamberlain will be pitching the 7th inning in a tie ball game, I hope he does well and I’m excited to see him pitch but once he does all the “Joba is a reliever” chatter starts again and I thought we were past this at this point but I guess not.
Joba is throwing 95-96 consistently but it wasn’t the 97-99 you got in ’07 but he still looks good in the role he is in… He gave up one hit to Mauer and now Girardi will go to Phil Coke to get Kubel.
What is everyone impression of the 95 MPH reliving Joba with the occasional 96 or 97? Is he the same as he was in 07 and I don’t remember it or is he still not throwing as hard as he can even only facing three batters?
Ron Darling sounds just like James Woods, does anyone else hear it?
Gomez, Young and Span cover as much ground in the outfield as any team outfield I have seen all year, they have some serious athletes playing the field!
Has anyone noticed that Hughes went from a knuckle curve and a fastball pitcher to a pure fastball slider pitcher?
EDIT: They are sitting on his fastball, he needs to keep mixing the curve in there to keep them honest… Hughes needs to lock down now with runners on the corner with 2 outs.
He threw the curve but he threw it for a strike and the Twins are on the verge on taking away home field advantage.
OMG, I said the same thing about Ron on Wednesday night. These guys are freaking terrible.
It’s like actually having James Woods in studio with as bad as they have been.
The crowd has been way more audible in this game than in game 1!
How do you let the 8 and 9 hitters beat you? Walks that’s how, Hughes and Burnett killed themselves with walks!
EDIT: With the way the offense has looked today and the fact that Joe Nathan is well rested down in the Twins bull pen this one could turn out bad…
Well Come on offense, lets at least get one run up so we don’t have to do everything against Nathan in the 9th! We beat him once this year but I am not so sure he will blow his first chance at a post season save this year.
Well the Yankees like comebacks, excitement and walk off wins if they want to pull this one out they will need all three to be in play as they will enter the 9th inning down by two against one of the best closers in the league not named Rivera. Tex, Arod and Godzilla will be the Bronx Bombers coming the plate and trying to win the game, good news Alex has 3 hits and all have driven in a run, bad new Tex is hitless in the playoffs and the in between news Hideki has one hit and that’s a HR off of Liriano. Can they do it? No doubt, will it happen? Not sure but it’s going to take some very very big performances by some very big contracts. Going to Minnesota and playing in that Dome for two straight games is not as comfortable with the 1-1 series tie if Pavano has a huge game then the Twins get the chance to close the series in Minnesota with their ace (Baker) pitching his first game in the playoffs. Now I’m not running for the hills and slitting my wrists because I don’t see Pavano winning no matter what the scenario, it will be a huge game for him against his former “team” for as little as he did for us and I just don’t see him dominating.
Come on AROD
YEA!!!!!!!!!!!
4 hits this post season and 5 RBI including all 3 tonight…
OMG ALEX RODRIGUEZ!!!!!
WOO HOO…
Padding his stats.
Those are my favorite stat padding HRs right there!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought for a minute that Swisher had just won it but only got to the track… C’mon Cano!
This is why you can’t start Aceves he is just to valuable out of the pen as basically an “ace” of the bull pen. He comes in and can do everything from one batter to 4 innings of work, and if things work out the way Girardi wants them to the Yankees will win in the next inning and Aceves will have a post season win to start adding to his total wins this season.
What is up with all these 2 out walks by the whole team?
I blame Kate Hudson’s hair clip.
Well Jay-Z’s glasses just got us out of another 1st and 3rd jam… Posada comes up next, now prove why you should catch every game Jorge and hit a HR to end this.
EDIT: Well he didn’t homer but he did get it started with a broken bat bloop single and now Brett Gardner gets to run for the first time in post season play!
Brett Gardner’s tobacco spit better kick some ass
They weren’t even close, man Brett is as fast as anyone in baseball bar none.
THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT! The boy slipped and he still beat the throw!!
EDIT: Nathan out and Johnny Damon has the chance to be the hero with pretty much anything hit into the outfield…
WOW, with Brett’s speed and the ball hit in the air what is he breaking to home for? HE should be hopping back toward the bag in that situation.
DAMN!!!! DAMN!!! DAMN!!!!
this was said in my Florida Evans voice
Really Damaso? He is only in for lefties and he can’t get either of them out…
Robertson is the only one left in the pen with real strike out stuff so he has to be the one coming in here…
I like Damaso against lefties and he has done good against Mauer all year, but I still would have kept Aceves in for the 11th inning he just offers so much in mental fortitude.
2 words: foetal position. Come on D-Rob!
groan
Good job by Tex on two back to back plays with the bases loaded!
That was a pretty good curve ball by Robertson but these guys can really hit the breaking stuff low…
foetaler position
Yeah D-Rob!!!!!! You da man!
This has to end this inning – Tex/ A-Rod
TEX AND ALEX CARRYING THE TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!
Woohoo!!! Teixeira Walk off homer !! Yankees Win!!!!!
YES…good nite everybody!!
That is one of the greatest ALDS games I have ever seen! Great Job by Tex and Alex!
I second that…
The big boys did what they had to do tonight
Don’t rule out Jeter’s tag play to save the run.Jete does all the stuff that doesn’t show up in the box score.
If your giving Jeter credit you have to give credit to Swisher on that one as well because it was really heads up to throw to 2nd in the first place instead of trying to go home on a runner who was going to score.
