  1. Old Ranger says:

Well Chris, you were right last time, be right again.

  2. Eric Schultz says:

Also worthy of note in today’s game: Pettitte is going for his 16th career postseason win, which would be the most for any pitcher in a career. He is currently tied with John Smoltz.

  3. A big lead off HR by Jeter puts the Yankees up 1-0 and through 2 Andy looks good but not dominate, they put balls in play but none hit that hard so it’s looking good if he the line up can put a few more runs on the board.

  4. How are you going to pitch to Alex Rodriguez with a 3-1 count… This man is on fire another RBI on his 4th HR of the post season!

  5. Jeter, Alex and now Johnny!! 3 solo HRs have put the Yankees up 3-0 in game 3 of the ALDS.

  6. Well you knew that streak wouldn’t last forever but Andy is leading 3-1 after 5 innings and if he can go one more inning and leave with the lead we can go Joba/Coke, Hughes and Mariano to finish

  7. Saw that bomb coming… Andy should have walked him if it came down to it and pitched to Rivera, no way he should have gotten a pitch to hit a HR on!

  8. Well all in all even with the 2 HRs it’s still exactly what we all asked from Pettitte before the playoffs started, he went 6 IP with 3 ER and the game is tied turning it over to Joba, Coke, Hughes and Mo. The other good news is we have been in the Angels bullpen for an inning now so we should have ample opportunity to get the lead back in this next inning or so.

  9. Chris H. says:

Andy should have pitched him outside or the ball should have been waaaaay in. Eh.

  10. The hard throwing Jepsen Vs Alex with Tex on first… If Arod hits a HR here or somehow hits a double that scores Tex from first then he is ALCS MVP for sure after being ALDS MVP…

  11. Damon is still a little shaky out there in LF but you have to give him a lot of credit he has made some good plays so he must have worked on his defense and it has paid off…

  12. Joba has looked shaky in the postseason so far but that was the hardest hit ball he has given up yet, he really worries me because his velocity is up some in the pen but he is far from dominate… What happened to this guy?
EDIT: Well Joba and Pettitte combine to blow a 3-0 lead and now the Yankees trail 4-3 in Cali. Chamberlain needs to buckle down and get the final out because this is a really important game going into CCs start tomorrow, you would like to finish a good team like this as soon as possible.

EDIT: It’s like every single game we have to watch Joba’s slide erode away into nothingness, once a great hard biting slider has just become either a cement mixer or a slow hanging slider.

  13. Chamberlain gets 3 batters and only records one out and everything he threw was hit back harder than it came in including his out…

There is definitely something to worry about with Joba because all of you who think that can be a closer your off, he has a long way to go before he is anything but middle relief or a below average starter.

  14. Jorge Posada bailing out Gardner and Girardi in that situation with the big solo HR after Gardner is thrown out on the pitch out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish we were scoring on more than solo shots but you take what you can get!

    Jeter, Rodriguez, Damon and Posada!

  15. I was against in the first few games and with good reason but I think Girardi should strongly consider starting Gardner in CF tomorrow…

  16. What a huge break for the Yankees with Bobby Abreu’s terrible base running mistake… but I think you have to question taking out Marte for Coke to face Abreu I mean come on what if it goes extras now you have no lefties.

  17. Three best curves I have seen out Hughes in a month or two…

  18. Tex needs to start hitting because as long as they keep leaving a base open they will keep walking Alex intentionally. That being said if Mariano can do his job we will go to the 10th inning with Posada, Cano and Swisher…

    • Great job by Girardi trusting Hughes to get through the 9th by himself! Also someone must have got into Hughes ear because he finally started mixing in the curve and throwing it for strikes to set up the strike out pitch and it really got hitters off balance looking for the fastball and getting the good curve he hasn’t shown in the playoffs. Good job by the staff and Hughes on that one! Also great job by Girardi because he saves Mo for the 10th.

  19. Eric Schultz says:

Jason Bulger? Go get it Yanks!

  20. Bulger has really good breaking stuff, I don’t know how much he trusts the fastball but with breaking stuff like that you just need to threaten with the fastball… obviously…

Swisher has looked truly god awful in this game with the bat with 3 strike outs all swinging on balls, and as terrible as Tex has been with the bat he has been just as amazing with the glove in the whole series and again twice today.

Either Mo or Hughes (only has 16 pitches) will go out for the 10th and then the 11th starts with Melky, Jeter and Damon so the good part of the order is right around the corner!

  21. I would’ve gone to Mo in the 10th only because Hughes hasn’t gone multiple innings in a playoff game this year and Mariano is almost a guaranteed 11th inning, let’s hope he can get out of 0 outs and a runner on 2nd.

  22. Mariano had enough time he didn’t need to rush that throw that much and throw it away…

  23. Great play by Tex to keep the game alive for another batter…

  24. OMG! MAriano gets out of the bases loaded jam but he also has to hit in the 2nd hole in place of Damon…

  25. So Frankie pinch hits, then who do you bring in? Robertson, Gaudin, Aceves?

  26. Robertson will pitch the bottom of the bottom of the 11th and if he can stay with his “big game” pitcher persona thus far in these playoffs then Tex, Arod and Hairston will be due up in the 12th…

  27. Anyone know why Girardi favors Aceves over Robertson pitching to Kendrick?

With Aceves coming in Gaudin is once again the only member of the bullpen actually left down in the pen, Girardi may be called out over managing but when you think about it if every piece of your bullpen is good and you use them all every game they are all fresh for every game.

  28. Well losing that game really hurts but it makes it really important for Sabathia to go out and have a great game tomorrow to take the 3-1 lead, the last thing you want to do is tie it up 2-2 and let Burnett have all the pressure on him because he is way to hit or miss to hang 3-2 on.

  29. The two big moves in this game were bringing out Damon for Hairston with 2 outs when the ball didn’t even go to him and Damon had been solid all ALCS… and bringing out Robertson after sitting down Rivera and Morales for Aceves who hasn’t been pitching well as it was this CS.

I don’t blame Girardi for much but he lost this one…

  30. Andy says:

Girardi keep using them charts…that move is going to change this series around. Angels are winning it now! Sabathia has no chance against kazmir

    • How can you even come close to that analysis? Sabathia is the much better left hander with much better stuff than Kazmir and the smart money is on CC over Scott in that one… What reasons would lead you to believe otherwise?

  31. Andy says:

    short rest?

hopefully yanks will be looking for revenge though

    • All of CC’s stats on short rest have been better than his regular rest starts and he has had the most rest this season he has had in 3 years, not to mention the 300 pound frame and rubber arm combined with a real winners “ace” mentality I don’t think short rest plays a factor.

  32. Chris H. says:

Girardi’s big mistake of the ALCS and it costs us game 3. Granted, the offense needed to do more, but Girardi overmanaged the team out of the game. The Aceves move made no sense at all.

  33. It took the Angles best effort to beat us in 11 against our worst starting pitcher stuff wise so I feel good heading into game 4, I didn’t think there would be a sweep in the first place and as long as you take one in LAA you almost have the thing wrapped up if you have to head back to New York only having to win one game at home. Since CC starts to tomorrow you would have to think that he is favored over Kazmir and after that Burnett can match Lackey and ideally the Yankees could wrap up the series in 5, although I did predict 6 games.

    • Chris H. says:

But remember, CC is pitching on short rest and Girardi burned through his bullpen tonight. The only fresh pitcher is Chad Gaudin and Marte. Girard made himself look foolish today, especially when Aceves would have been better used tomorrow.

      • I don’t think anyone in the pen is burnt out none of them pitched enough pitches to be worn out, that is one reason he uses them all so each one only has to face a couple of guys… Marte, Coke and Joba all only got 1 out and Hughes didn’t throw more than 22 or so and Mo only went one inning.

CC on short rest doesn’t worry me at all, he is going to go out and pitch a gem just watch, he has that Bob Gibson give me the ball mentality that big “ace” pitchers need to have!

I really don’t believe in the “this game turns the series” bull, if you say that then any loss turns any series because the Yankees weren’t going to sweep and neither were the Angles they are two good teams who are going to battle, they had all the pressure to get this win not us we just need one in 3.
