If the game starts on time, then they’ll do everything in their power to make sure it finishes at some point tonight (tonight is relative here, as the game could go beyond 12 am if there’s a rain delay). Either way, I don’t think they’ll postpone, regardless of the rain. Too bad it wasn’t a day game. The weather was fine earlier.
Here are Burnett’s numbers against the Angels, lifetime.
Here are Saunders’ numbers against the Yankees, lifetime.
I’ll call an A-Rod homer in advance. Over 14 AB’s, Alex is hitting .500/.533/1.071 against Saunders, with 2 HR, 2 2B, and 4 RBI. This is a good matchup for him. In fact, I expect to see Kate Hudson shown at least twice.

Ha, is that what you’re calling?
Dominate night for almost everyone but Molina and Cabrera… I didn’t do terrible last night in line up predictions but I went bigger this time.
Damn it… Any other night that hit is the Hr ball I called for Damon!
It’s been a while since Saunders last start so I think the Yankees need to try and do some damage early before he falls into a rhythm later on in the game.
Game looks like it’ll start on time!
Thank god! At least if we get this game in then we still have all our options open fort game instead of being locked into a set plan, because I am sure the last thing the Angels want to see again is CC.
You think Burnett’s curve will be affected like Lackey’s?
Burnett looks like he has a decent curve tonight and he is really throwing some gas with the fastball… What a bad hit to give up just a little bloop.
Let’s see how Saunders looks in the cold after 13 or so days of not seeing live batters..
Well both starting pitchers look good to start the game but Saunders looks like he could get his pitch count run up, he threw 12 pitches to Damon and Tex but Jeter swung at the first pitch so he finished with only 13 pitches… Looks good for getting him out at some point though.
WOW, Burnett has control, velocity and bite on the curve… It could be a long night for the Angel hitters.
Burnett looking good. Saunders looking good. Could be a quick game.
If you find 3 1/2 hour+ games quick.
^lol.
4 hours+ at this point in the 11th.
Robinson Cano coming through HUGE!
Who on here called A big hit from Robinson Cano tonight? Someone did in last nights game…
It was me.
Good job! Him and Jeter really the only two producing right now.
Nice work from Cano. Props to Hunter and Abreu for being an bad outfielders.
Seriously, I am so glad Bobby no longer patrols RF for the Yankees anymore, he is almost as bad as Damon but he has an arm.
Yea. Abreu has a great arm. It’s his only redeeming quality. Without that arm, he’d probably be a DH.
Either way I think he would play RF for the Angels this year, where would you put Vlad? It will be interesting to see if the Angels decide to bring back Bobby and not Vlad (I doubt they bring back Vlad) or neither of them.
Look how extremely average Tex has looked on D ;)
Another great job staying on first base! Tex has saved 3 hits in these two games so far!
First walk from Burnett tonight but it couldn’t have been to a worse guy than Figgins… He should be stealing at some point.
You know Figgins wants to steal but come on you have been dominate to every batter you have faced who cares about someone stealing second with 2 outs? He shouldn’t be throwing over he should just pitch! Let Molina worry about the throw.
The guy is a pure beast and built for the post season!!!!!!
So it begins.. Jeter HR, Damon single.
I’ll put the call in… Alex with a 2 run HR to RCF…
EDIT: Well he went to RCF but he hit it for an out…
The Angels can’t buy a base right now! Good stretch by Tex and Molina still has a great accurate arm.
Burnett is untouchable tonight and he has only thrown 57 pitches in 4 stellar innings of work, he could save the pen a day of work if he keeps this up!
Whats with all the 2 seam fastballs? He was dominating with the 4 seam and now all of a sudden 2 of every 3 fastballs are 2 seamers.
As his control starts to break down so does the lead…
Well bad Burnett decided to show up late tonight but he is here and he has no control right now at all on anything.
So I thought Molina was starting this game for Burnett so that there wouldn’t be wild pitches on his curveball? So Burnett has 4 hit batsmen and a wild pitch in the post season… To top it off he came into the 5th with 57 pitches and a lead and he leaves the 5th with 90 pitches and a tie game. Will he come back out for the 6th? I would but I would have Robertson ready to go.
WOW Jeter is safe and instead they give the Angels the double play.
Well the good AJ showed back up for the 6th and he should be able to get out of the 6th by himself wtih no more damage which would set up Joba for 7th, Hughes for the 8th and Mo for the 9th and hopefully we have the lead back by then.
Well Alex 0-3 and he hasn’t looked good tonight in his at bats and showed somee frustration after his last pop out.
Cano just ended Burnett’s night on a very easy play and now you have a fast SS on first with only one out and Coke coming up.
The Joba strikeout of Vlad is the game right there.
The Yankees will win this one!
I can’t believe Joba threw only one fastball out of 5 or 6 pitches to Hunter, that was a mistake!
We have to score first which is really not looking good right now with all these DPs… I am very interested to see what Hughes will do in his first outing since looking scared against the Twins.
That Jeter error could be the game right there, the Yankees lose and it’s a huge missed play!
Girardi knows it to because he is going with Mo for 4 outs to try and pick up that error…
If Mo gets out of this then it’s a tie game going to the bottom of the 8th and it will be Posada to pinch hit followed by Jeter and Damon so the offense is set up to score some runs, just hold ‘em off the board Mo!
Looks like Mariano will be asked to go after at least 5 outs and probably up to 7 outs.
Double plays are killing us, especially the one in which Jeter was safe!
With the rain starting to fall the Yankees need one run in 2 innings to have a 2-0 lead in the ALCS going to Cali.
Guzman on 3rd, Gardner on 1st and 2 outs with Cano up…
Is wasted as Cano simply bounces the ball back to the mound! Mariano will pitch the 10th but who after that Aceves? Robertson? Gaudin? Marte?
The offense has had to many chances to not get it done yet Mariano can probably but one more scoreless inning but the longer you let a team like the Angles hang around the more dangerous they become in forcing you to mess up.
To the Guzman detractors, I think it was worth it to have him in there based on that inning.
The whole idea of taking Hinske or Pena over Guzman was just ridiculous to start with! It really is to bad we couldn’t take advantage of that inning however and with Vlad on with no outs this inning isn’t starting out great.
With Guzman pinch running for Matsui who hits in his place if the DH spot comes back up in the line up? Hairston?
Yeah, no way Pena would have made 3rd on a hit and run…
It was actually not a hit and run it was a run and hit… Guzman had the steal sign on and Gardner was being defensive in a 2-2 count so no I really don’t think they would have sent Pena there because if Gardner takes Pena is thrown out and Guzman isn’t!
You must have high def, because I missed the steal sign on my tv. Hopefully it comes up in the post game and I’ll give you props if you’re right!
I actually did watch the whole game on my HD TV in my living room…
25 pitches following 16 pitches yesterday should do it for Mo but he will have an off day to recover before going to LAA so he should be fine.
Coming up against Darren Oliver will be Melky from the right, Posada from the right and Jeter…
He stratled the bag for sure! I give the second baseman the out when he is above the bag but he moved around the bag which is clearly not an out at second.
Not sure how much longer we can hold this Angels offense down, they have been knocking on the door all night and they are trying to force there way in! The Yankees missed a huge opportunity there and it could cost them in the end!
Aceves will come in and try to sit down Mathews Jr, Aybar and Figgins
Well I figured once the Yankees failed to score on Melky’s lead off single that they were probably done you just can’t squander that many back to back to back chances to win and keep yourself in the game eventually you will give up the run you couldn’t score.
Going to LAA 1-1 is not the ideal plan of action but you deal with what you have to.
It’s really raining now and Aceves walks Mathews to lead off and with Aybar bunting him over the go ahead run is at 2nd with Figgins and Abreu coming up.
And that’s the game! The Angels take the 1-0 lead and it should all but rap up the game. That’s why Johnny Damon needs to be a DH because no one respects his arm and Gary Mathews Jr should never be able to score on a single hit to LF on 2nd.
uh, no that’s not the game.
Thank god!
Adding to his legend in the post season in 2009 ties the game once again with his 3rd HR of the post season!
Seriously, you should never give up on this offense.
I seriosuly had no idea Arod was due up! I’d much rather give up on the offense and get that shot of renewal than expect it to happen and it not happen! I learned my lesson after mocking my friend when Mike Sweeney hit a double and saying it didn’t matter and the next batter was Ichiro with a 2 run walk off on Mariano Rivera.
Guzman looked real good there at bat. Glad that wasn’t Pena up instead.
Yeah because that was really what he was put on the roster to do… Dude you are blind if you don’t see Pena couldn’t have gone first to third on Gardner’s hit, he is a much better and faster base runner than Pena. Pena wouldn’t have pinch ran for Matsui because he couldn’t have stolen the base and wouldn’t have been running. Girardi should have pinch hit Hairston for Guzman but he didn’t in case we need a pinch hit later on in the game. If you are going to try and say that at bat says Pena should be on instead of Guzman then I question your managerial judgment.
You’ll obviously look for any reason not to have Guzman on the roster… Bottom line if you think Pena over Guzman is a better move your wrong!
Unless Guzman can straight steal then Pena is equally effective on the bases, is a better bat if the game goes long, and give Girardi more flexibility.
Guzman is better at the straight steal though… More importantly it allows Girardi to use Gardner earlier in the game like he did today because if Gardner gets thrown out or the move doesn’t work you have just as good a pinch runner on the bench ready to go so you don’t have to over think whether Gardner should go in or not. The bat is useless, Pena isn’t a game changer and neither one is getting another at bat. It makes more sense to have the player who can steal over the player who just can run the bases well but can’t actually steal big bases at big moments when everyone knows you are going like Gardner or Guzzy.
I agree with your logic, just disagree that Guzman is a guy that can straight steal in a key situation. Regardless, the Yankess should be able to move from this series and I’ll be shocked to see him on the WS roster.
Not with A-Rod up in the bottom half!!!
Had no clue he was coming up and I have no idea how I didn’t know.
Robertson with a really good curve for the strike out!
Teixeira is 0-5 with 3 LOB tonight… He only has 2 or 3 hits in the entirety of the post season, if Alex had gone anywhere near those numbers he would have been booed out of town glad the are a little nicer to Tex.
And wouldn’t you know the baseball gods are going to give Tex a huge 6th at bat with runners on the corner and 2 outs…
This game just won’t end!!!!! Both teams have stranded a boat load!
What the hell is wrong with Cano tonight!!!!!!!!!!!
He looked like Roger Dorn on that play.
Anyone alive out there? Remember when I speculated that this would be a short game?
A 5 hour short game! I’m about to have a heart attack on every pitch though!
Haha. Definitely. I had some friends over and I kicked them out as the game went on. Way too intense for me to be around actual people, lol.
So what happens if this keeps up and Gaudin pitches an inning or two? Both with game 4 and tonight?
Looks like the moment may be catching up to Robertson
What a great game, huh? It’d be better if the Yankees win.
Yeah it’s great for a doctor when I go to the hospital with a heart attack haha…
Roberson may have soaked up to much of the moment against Hunter but he settled down real well and pitch Vladdy really well! David may be growing into a big game pitcher before our eyes this post season!
Win or lose this is why you are a baseball fan.
Yeah but lose and you may regret the decision to follow the sport for a night!
Definitely. Win or lose, great game. Glad we won!
It may not be on of the greatest games played in ALCS history but it sure was one of the most gut wrenching and exciting games I have ever seen! Not quite on the level of Aaron Boone though.
Hairston with a pinch hit single and that is why he had Guzman batting after Alex’s HR… Gardner should bunt for a hit here half a sac half for a hit.
Sort of like that!
The Melk man will have another chance to come through tonight with his 4th walk off hit of the season! Anything but another double play please!
Great thing I won’t have to worry Yankees win!
Seriously!
IT’S OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeeee-Hah!!
I have no idea why he went to second but thank you LAA!
He had visions of a double play in his head.
Bad move for the Angels.
Good for Yankees.
You know, if Figgins didn’t boble the backup catch, he would have thrown out Hairston at home.
What a GAME!
Which doesn’t make sense because Melky is to fast to get the double part of the double play after you get Cano at second.
Yankees going to Anaheim up 2-0 with the vet Pettitte on the mound and a chance to go into game 4 with CC up 3-0…
THEEEEE YANKEEEES WIN!!!!!
Hairston got the pie but only because Izturis wouldn’t have wanted AJ to pie him…
This has to be a team destined to win because this game should have been lost 10 different times!
J-Hair was one of a handful of players that had played 1,000 games yet had never reached the postseason. He changed that and now has a moment to remember.
I think this team has quite a few guys on it who have done almost everything in this sport except win a ring when you think of guys like Alex, Hairston, Matsui, CC, AJ and Tex.
Seeing A-Rod in the WS will be one of the better moments of my sports life.
The guy deserves it for sure! He has gone through a lot of crap and admittedly I’m sure most of it brought on by himself but he still has always seemed like a nice enough guy with a ton of talent and a boat load of hatters! I want to see him carry these numbers to the world series and have a great all around performance in the spot light and finally end the Alex isn’t a big game guy talks once and for all!
90+ comments I know I’m a lot of them but that is the most I have seen on here and it reflects the nature of the game because that was 5 hours and 10 minutes full of action!
Does Hairston get a contract for next year or is Pena given the job?
I still haven’t calmed down after watching that game! What a team, what a game! What an shot by Alex Rodriguez! 8 RBI for Alex Rodriguez this post season and no 0 fors.
Loved the game. Great night for the Yanks.
And we hit the 100+ comment mark in a post. Props to The other Chris H and everyone else who hung around in the game thread.
78 and now 79 comments out of 108… didn’t mean to take over the whole of the posting but it was a good game with more than enough to comment!
Very much appreciated. Great contributor.
Chris, Kate Hudson must have not been in attendance because they didn’t show her in the stands one time and if she was there I am sure you would have gotten your two shots of her when Arod his HR.
