Chad Jennings informs us that the Yankees have recalled Juan Miranda.

Last night, the Durham Bulls swept Scranton for the Governors’ Cup, effectively ending their season, meaning that the Yankees are now free to pick apart the Triple-A roster. This year, over 122 games, Miranda hit .290/.369/.498 with 19 homers and 82 RBI. He’s an intriguing player in that he’s a lefty, he’s only 26, and he showed that he can hit lefties as well as righties this season. If he were a left fielder, he’d be useful. However, as a 1B/DH, he doesn’t necessarily fit into the Yankees’ plans for 2010 and beyond.

He deserves a shot, though. If not with the Yankees, then with someone.

Wow! Miranda can hit lefties who knew! Maybe he really can be a part time dh next year.

I still don’t necessarily believe he can hit left handed major league pitching or how well his power will translate to the major league level but it’s nice to see him get a call up and who knows maybe really wow some people (Girardi, Cashman, Me)

The Yankees are not trading him unless they import another younger left handed bat with power.

Hok… He has no position on this team and will not be the starting DH next year, Shelley Duncan has as much chance of being the starting DH for the Yankees next year as Miranda does. Miranda will almost certainly be traded as a small chip in part of a much bigger trade, he really isn’t even ranked that high amongst our prospects people are way to high on him.

If Damon and Matsui (49 home runs) both or one leaves the Yankees need left handed power. Miranda is a big strong guy who has always mashed right handed pitching. Miranda also missed some time from getting HBP and stepping on the first baseman’s foot running out a close play. If these didn’t happen his numbers might even be better. Giving him 300/400 pa as the dh/1b is not a dumb idea. If he can succeed the Yankees have a cheap part time DH/left handed bench bat. I believe Miranda will earn that role and become a more valuable trade asset after next season if the Yankees go that route. Finally there is a very good chance if Montero is mashing in AAA that he will be called up as the backup Catcher/Dh. A Montero/Miranda DH could be very solid by the second half on next year.

As for Shelley Duncan he has holes in his swing that render him useless. Shelley also bats right handed so that is not an asset in this situation.

Only Matsui is going to leave and Damon will be the DH so where do you expect to get Miranda 400 plate appearances? I can’t believe you typed giving him 400 appearances isn’t a dumb idea with out deleting it you must be high, if he gets that many at bats then Tex is on the 60 day DL and it doesn’t matter because we won’t make the playoffs anyway, and Miranda is no where near talented enough and sucks to badly on defense to take any at bats away from Tex. I doubt Miranda even makes it on the team out of spring training and will be lucky to get called up at all. You way over rate his power and way under rate the amount of strike outs and lack of OBP he will have at the major league level, Miranda isn’t a starting 1B in this league, at best he is a pinch hitter and bench role player, Montero has much better chance at getting called up but no way at back up catcher he isn’t good enough behind the plate or working with catchers to take away Cervelli’s job. You can think what yo9u want and who am I to take away your dreams but if Miranda gets 400-500 plate appearances next year then go ahead and by football tickets for next year because there will be no playoffs for this team.

I know Shelley is useless that was the point, he has about as much chance as Miranda at starting at DH or first base or anywhere on this team and that is 0. Face facts Miranda just isn’t that great a prospect, he can hit for power and little average in the minors and will hit for less average and less power in the bigs.

Miranda wouldn’t even be an option because if the Yankees were worried about missing some power it would be in left field while Damon is DHing and if they are going that route they can get Holliday, Bay or countless others to fill that spot and have decent power numbers. Besides we have more than enough power on the team with just Damon, we could use that money on speed or pitching and improve our team more than trying to force Miranda into the line up because of his power and lack of everything else.

Wow just more dumbness on your part! I give up! Miranda is most definitely going to be given a chance with the Yankees whether you like it or not. The problem I have with you is that you don’t even know what you’re talking about. My first comment on this topic was written to mock you! I already knew Miranda was hitting lefties better. I also know Miranda missed 2 years development time trying to establish residency after he defected from Cuba. I also know from watching some of his games in person that he is not nearly as bad defensively as he’s been portrayed to be. There is nothing wrong with seeing what Miranda can do. As for Damon being the DH why would the Yankees want that when Matsui is better at it? If the Yankees do put Damon at DH who plays left field? You suggest bringing in a type A free agent and that is unlikely to happen. After spending what they did last year it’s very doubtful the Yankees would even consider locking up another player long term for big dollars. The Yankees don’t need to spend 200 million dollars to win. What’s the point of building a farm system if your not going to even use them as bench players?

As with another dumb point by you! Montero is not nearly as terrible as you suggest defensively. His biggest issue as I come to know it is with his throwning mechanics to second(footwork). If the Yankees bring him up he will have his very own personal catching coach in Tony Pena. Pena helped out Posada quite a bit with his throwing.

Born to hit in the Stadium.

Joe Girardi has said that Miranda may not be the last September call up and the last one in the works could be bringing up Ian Kennedy, now some have said he would replace Mitre but I highly highly doubt it and I would think he wouldn’t be much more than a 2 or 3 inning guy out of the pen to take some of the long relief appearances away from Aceves before the post season starts so he isn’t wearing himself out.

  6. But how does it feel to plug into a system that’s say, a million times as smart as a person.
