Jorge Posada has been suspended for four games due to his actions last night. He has also been fined $3,000. Jesse Carlson, who was on the bad end of someone’s punch, received the same punishment from the MLB. Jorge might as well serve his suspension now. The Yankees should be able to win this weekend’s Seattle series without him.

UPDATE – Posada’s suspension is actually 3 games if he doesn’t appeal (how strange is that), so he’ll begin serving it tonight. Same goes for Carlson. Shelley Duncan has also been suspended 3 games for his role in the fracas and will appeal. It doesn’t stop there, though, as Kevin Long, Edwar Ramirez and Rod Barajas were fined for their actions (I have no idea what Long did to warrant his fine).

Jorge knows better then to do something dumb like he did. I understand he is very intense but, being smart is a good quality to have along with it. This is not the first time he has done things like this and it won’t be the last.

It was a negative situation. Hopefully both teams will get past it and move on. At least no one was injured.

      • The other Chris H says:

How is it negative? Because we aren’t suppose to fight in this PG -13 world we live in and it offended someone?

No…. only good came out of this fight the team is even closer now and they will enter the playoffs with the knowledge every guy in that club house with throw down and be a man with them to the end from position players to every member of the rotation.

Boston was in a bad way after we handed them their lunch in a brown paper sack and sent them to school, they got into a “brawl” with Youk and Porcello and ever since then you have seen the Old Red Sox, the winners and the team that doesn’t quit so I think today you will see a much more hungry team than before. The Yankees were starting to get complacent with being on top and not having anyone doubt them anymore, everyone is picking them for the WS and last night was a wake up call that you can’t lolly gag and hope to turn on the competitive spirit again when the playoffs start that doesn’t work. They weren’t even fighting to come back until after Posada got thrown at, I think because of this the team is going to grind and fight to the end of the season to make sure they get the best record and make sure they get a strong start the post season.

It’s embarrassing for the Yankees when you have thousands of kids watching them and they act that way. Sure, it helps them feel a sense of camaraderie, but to think it’s not a negative situation, beyond that one positive, is wrong. They could have lost players due to injury, too. It is, overall, a negative situation with one positive buried underneath the surface.

          • The other Chris H says:

We didn’t lose to injury so that isn’t a factor anymore…. Also here is a big tip for you ATHLETES AREN’T ROLE MODELS! Sorry that is just a dumb stereotype, they get played to play ball who cars if kids saw it, any kid who fights because they “saw the Yankees do it” was going to anyway and just didn’t have an excuse to get away with it.

If no one got hurt, Posada gets rest, it wakes the team up from a funk they were in mentally and we bounce back with a win tonight there was nothing bad about it at all.

Do you think the Red Sox were embarrassed? No and Youk got flipped by a 20 year old and they still got on a win streak afterwards. If anything we won that fight and the Red Sox lost theirs so it really should be an emotional pick up because we won.

            • Chris H. says:

Believe it or not, the Yankees may not be role models—although I’d argue that’s not true, as guys like Derek Jeter are clearly role models—but, when young kids see fights on tv, especially in a competitive sport, then they often think such fighting is justified. Listen, I’ve gotten into countless fights when I was younger and know now that such behavior is inappropriate. There are better ways to do things.

And, about the Red Sox, they SHOULD have been embarrassed for the way Youkilis acted. Most people I talked to likened him to a scumbag afterward.

              • The other Chris H says:

Athletes aren’t paid to be role models they are paid to be athletes!

I have been in fights myself when I was younger and I am not saying it is the best way to handle your disagreements but I also am not going to say that it doesn’t handle your business at times. Carlson shouldn’t have tried to start something by standing in the base path near home, what was he doing there? HE was trying to start a fight, he even said afterwords as soon as he past I said “lets get it on” so to turn the other cheek in that situation may have been “the right thing to do” but Posada did what needed to be done, we have had countless people hit this year but no where near as many as in the past because they know we aren’t going to take it.

Fighting may not be the right way to go in the real world but when it comes to winning a world series I am more confident now in the Yankees after that fight than I was at any other point in the season.

Although 4 games is a lot for a position player, he deserves it for being stupid considering the time of year, the opponent and the standings. The suspension won’t hurt the team too much (expanded roster gives us a third catcher and the division and best record lead are comfortable) but the whole thing was very stupid.

    • The other Chris H says:

It was not stupid it was a wake up call and I for one and glad it happened, no one got hurt, Posada get 4 days to rest his legs but will be back for the Red Sox and Angels series and every body on that team knows that this isn’t just some group of guys this a real team with real teammates… This fight can only help the Yankees.

  3. yanke1313 says:

    owned.

    • The other Chris H says:

      Jesse Carlson got owned.

      • yanke1313 says:

Ya. It’s good to see the Yanks stand up for themselves.

        • The other Chris H says:

I have no problem with guys on a team stepping up and protecting each other from the other team, I don’t think anyone thinks Melancon hit Hill on purpose and Mitre’s reaction suggests he didn’t mean to either and I guarantee Cito Gastin ordered Posada to be thrown at so I hope he got what he wanted. Posada isn’t a punk and apparently neither is Shelley Duncan Johnny Damon.

  4. The other Chris H says:

Jesse Carlson has had his suspension reduced to 3 games for not appealing.

  5. The other Chris H says:

Shelley is suspended 3 games? How will we survive this enormous blow to the teams offense ahaha…. I have always like Duncan but after last night I feel that much more for him, what a great teammate he hasn’t even been on this team much and was still in the middle of the pile.

  6. The other Chris H says:

I think they may have let it be 3 instead of 4 if they don’t appeal so that neither guy can come into tonight’s game and re start a brawl…. even though I don’t think it would happen.
