Jeter will have monuments built in his honor.

Damaso Marte and Edwar Ramirez, not so much.

There are three things you need to know about tonight’s game:

Derek Jeter became the all time leader for hits as a New York Yankee. He needed just one to do it, but in typical Jeter fashion, he had two.

Andy Pettitte struggled. It was not a decent outing for him–he couldn’t make it past the fifth–and I’m not sure if the hour-and-a-half-rain delay at the start of the game contributed to his ineffectiveness, but given his age it would not be a possibility I would discount.

The Yankee bullpen was bad tonight. Very bad. Still, it’s unlikely, at this point, that Edwar Ramirez makes the postseason roster or that Damaso Marte, his first rough outing since coming off of the DL, is a tremendous concern, even if he does make the roster (and as a LHP, he will).

The tarp came on the field at about 11.36, and from there it was simply a matter of time before, as they say, the game got ‘banged’. a 12.40 AM restart time. Game ended at 1.30 AM.

One Response to Historic night turns into rainy mess

I was at the game. Jeter moment was very cool. The rain made everything else pretty miserable, though (the bullpen didn’t help either).
