It’s definitely not the A-Team, that’s for sure.

Jorge and Swisher are both out after being victimized by their own foul balls last night, while A-Rod and Damon are getting the day off.

Good, I was starting to think we wouldn’t have one of these today… good idea again Chris… Man what a B squad for sure, if AJ isn’t lights out we could lose easy. I think I would rather have Hinske than Shelley against Kazmir even though he is a lefty.

    • Chris H. says:

No problem. I’ll post one for every game from now on. It’s fun to discuss the game.

      • The other Chris H says:

Well with all the squabbling and arguing we do on this site it’s good to come together every once and a while and just talk the game at hand while it plays out.

        • Chris H. says:

Agreed. Our arguing is constructive, though (and entertaining!).

          • The other Chris H says:

I love it… obviously or I wouldn’t do it daily haha.

Here is a question… Why the hell is Shelley Duncan above Cano in this a line up? Also why have Hairston hit second when Cano is the perfect two hole hitter (aka a contact hitter with limited Ks and nice power)?

            • Chris H. says:

I think it’s because Shelley Duncan obviously won’t get on base and with Cano being a poor hitter with RISP, it makes sense to have no one on base when he bats…

              • The other Chris H says:

Haha Shelley gets a hit and gets yelled at by Girardi… “you know that’s not why we put you in the line up”.

  2. The other Chris H says:

AJ looks sharp so far he has his good fastball with decent control, if he can ring up a real quality start then the post season rotation question marks all but go away with Pettitte healthy and Burnett on track.
EDIT: Another strike out on the fastball for Burnett, that is usually a good sign for the curve later on.

    • Chris H. says:

Yup, he needs to be on today, especially with this lineup.

      • The other Chris H says:

Well he is hitting 96 and 97 with some regularity… Also the YES radar gun has started showing the wrong speeds again, they really need to get one that works because game day is pretty much the only place to find out the real velocity of pitches when this happens.

  3. Chris H. says:

The other Chris H: Haha Shelley gets a hit and gets yelled at by Girardi… “you know that’s not why we put you in the line up”.

    Haha.

    • The other Chris H says:

Looks like Shelley is going to get that yelling… at least he can say he tried to make an out but Chone helped him out.

  4. The other Chris H says:

Well according to YES the Yankees website is wrong and Jon Lester will be facing Joba in the first game of the Bo Sox series instead of CC.

WOW Brett Gardner is one of the fastest 3 or 4 guys in baseball for sure!

  5. Moshe Mandel says:

Aj looks nasty. He needs to throw more strikes, but it looks like his stuff is back where he needs it.

    • The other Chris H says:

Part of AJ being “right” is when he is effectively wild and hitters don’t quite know where the ball is going and they aren’t sure if he does. It makes them uncomfortable and it makes his stuff harder to hit when it has a little more movement to it, now he needs to be able to limit the walks but going 2-2 in some counts isn’t a terrible thing for Burnett.

  6. Chris H. says:

How about a foot race during next year’s All-Star festivities?

Brett Gardner versus Carl Crawford versus Rajai Davis versus Michael Bourne versus Nyjer Morgan

  7. The other Chris H says:

Chone Figgins is a beast with the bat in the lead off spot… Just saying, the Yankees have a history of getting players who shine against them and Figgins is definitely of that mold.

  8. The other Chris H says:

Nice play by Gardner! He is a noticeable increase in CF defense but I think Melky still has a place on this team and is a very solid defensive corner outfielder if he just works on not trying to lift balls by pulling up with his swing he could hit with more authority.

  9. The other Chris H says:

What a bad slide by Tex! He should have had that score for sure, he should have slid to the outside of the plate he basically went down the middle.

    • Chris H. says:

I thought the same thing. Bad slide there.

      • The other Chris H says:

I don’t think that is a part of the game he works on or cares that much about because almost never has good slides… It doesn’t come up but whenever he comes home and it’s a play at the plate he either gives up and lets himself get tagged or he falls onto the plate like he did there with no real technique to it.

  10. The other Chris H says:

Great Job by Robby finally coming through with RISP!! Melky same thing good!

  11. The other Chris H says:

The other Chris H: Chone Figgins is a beast with the bat in the lead off spot… Just saying, the Yankees have a history of getting players who shine against them and Figgins is definitely of that mold.

Who was it that said Chone “isn’t that good” I know it wasn’t Chris or Mo, I think it was Scott, well with that double he has 7 hits in these 3 games and went 0-4 in game 1… He is a beast at the lead off and is the starting point for all the Angels speed and success, to sign him is to make our team that fast combined with our power and take away the spark plug from the Angels that’s a huge WIN-WIN.

  12. The other Chris H says:

Great job by Burnett (and Cano) in limiting the Angels to one run after getting 2nd and 3rd with no outs, he has great stuff tonight and it looks like he isn’t in his head at all!

  13. The other Chris H says:

The other Chris H: Great Job by Robby finally coming through with RISP!! Melky same thing good!

Does anyone else find it hard to believe that Robinson Cano is like 3rd in hits in the AL and is 4 away from 200 hits on the season in the 7th hole most of the year?

  14. The other Chris H says:

Why would you throw anything near the strike zone at 0-2 on a left hander when they haven;t held off the Knuck curve all day??? Burnett just doesn’t make smart sequence selection a lot of the times.

  15. The other Chris H says:

Well I still see life and location on the fastball for the most part and 2 of those ball calls to Napoli were questionable so I wouldn’t bring in Marte here but I guess Girardi is going opposite of last night, lets see if it works.

  16. The other Chris H says:

Hairston can be added to the list of injured/not available as he injured either a finger or his wrist batting in the 7th.

After throwing all those pitches yesterday I doubt Hughes is available today, so who is going to pitch the 7th and 8th? I would probably let Marte pitch to Aybar and Abreu and then bring in Bruney or maybe Kennedy, Coke apparently is sick… If Ace can pitch in then he would pitch the 8th for me but if not it may be more mix and match.

    • The other Chris H says:

Kennedy is warming up and could be the pitcher in the 8th inning….

      • The other Chris H says:

Kennedy is rusty that is for sure but he has hit 92 on the 4 seamer so that is encouraging but he definitely has some rust to shake off if he is going to be on the post season roster over a guy like Bruney because his command isn’t there.

        • The other Chris H says:

HE was rusty but he looked good and he got the last two outs with the bases loaded with a strike out another strike out that Molina dropped and later became a pop out to Guzman.

  17. The other Chris H says:

Girardi did go with Marte through Abreu but chose to go with Alby over Bruney, which really shows how far Brian has fallen and he may have fallen off the playoff roster at this point if Girardi won’t go to him bases empty two outs righty up (Torii Hunter).
EDIT: Well Jon didn’t work so now we have to got to a slightly under the weather Phil Coke to close out the 7th… Hope it works…
