Checking in on Halladay and Washburn
Since July’s trade deadline, Roy Halladay has put together a truly forgettable campaign. In 6 starts in August, Halladay had a 2-4 record, a 4.71 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP and a .316 BAA. Sergio Mitre actually had the same amount of wins in August while having started fewer games. One wonders how Halladay would have performed if he had been traded.
Jarrod Washburn, who, unlike Halladay, was actually traded a few hours prior to the July deadline, had a 6.81 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in August. He has won just one game for Detroit since joining the team (the same number had by Chad Gaudin).
Funny how things work out sometimes…

There are no guarantees in trades; you can only go by probabilities. I suspect Halladay has slumped as he realized he was stuck for the rest of the season with a team going nowhere.
I wonder if Toronto should take any heat for not moving him at the deadline. If he continues to pitch this way, his value won’t be as high as it was in July and the Jays may not get the best package for him over the winter.
Rumor was they refused a Bucholz plus Bowden and Westmoreland package. I doubt they get more than that and while I understand you would rather trade out of the division in the end don’t you want the best deal.
I always heard Westmoreland was untouchable and he was never talked about in the Halladay deal.
This why you dont give up Montero and Hughes in a trade. Anything can happen in a two month span of starts. You take the 6 years of team control any day of the week.
Definitely. Washburn has been awful. I wanted the Yankees to get him, too. What a mess.
I dont mind not getting those guys if Joba learns how to pitch effectively. I also found out and maybe you guys knew this but the Yankees had a shot at Felix Hernandez-anyone know what happened? I think if you get King Felix then you could have used the Joba pick for a centerfielder and or middle infielder. I would be more up on Joba but damn man it seems like he cant get out of his own way. I dont get how you get so mediocre in one year?
The Yankees and I think the Braves offered Felix more money, but he had already established a relationship with Seattle, I think by working at their complex near his home. He took less money to sign with Seattle. And just be patient with Joba, because the talent is there. I think he will be much better once unshackled next year.
Thank you Moshe I appreciate that reply. Someone who has a reasonable answer I am ok with that. At least they were intersedted and made an effort. I would hate to think they didnt go hard enough after him
Supposedly, Felix was also interested in pitching in Seattle because his idol Freddy Garcia pitched there.
I still think we have a shot at Felix but no way he stays in Seattle and you could trade or sign him before he turns 26… Why would you trade Joba for a center fielder? Ever heard of Brett Gardner, Melky Cabrera and Austin Jackson? Center field is set up for a while with one of the 3.
