I just posted on this in the Garland area…
I think he immediately jumps Towers, Igawa, Ortiz and Hirsh and starts over Mitre next start because he is a legitimate big league pitcher and the others aren’t and he has had success with Tampa and Oakland in the past.
Good pick up, a legitimate #5. Nice work Cash. See ya Sergio.
Yeah he’s nothing special but he has worked in AL East before and he is only 26 years old and he can be a legit 5th starter or a reliever next year if he stays on the team.
Yankees still need someone to replace Joba before the end of the season. We haven’t seen the last of Ponson lite, er, Mitre, yet
Yeah and I’m still not so sure that Cashman won’t get a Jon Garland anyway to make up for that but Gaudin at least gives them the choice to not have Mitre start in these games that are going to be important for the stretch run and if you can acquire one more starter than Mitre never has to be seen again. If they get another starter I wouldn’t expect to see Joba in the pen at the end of the season IMO they would be getting prepared to take some starts away from Chamberlain and give him those starts in the playoffs.
The Yankees have Ortiz, Gaudin and Mitre. Those 3 should be able to spot-start to limit Joba’s innings (with one taking over the 5th starter role—it’ll probably be Gaudin).
I don’t see anyway that Gaudin is not the immediate 5th starter and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take on a long relief role in the pen next year if he pitches decent.
I think the Yankees saw some positive things in Mitre’s last outing, although the Gaudin acquisition shows that they’re growing impatient. I see them giving Mitre one more shot and if he blows it, Gaudin will be in (Gaudin will likely be the first guy in if Mitre gives up a bunch of runs, however).
Look like Gaudin will work out of the ‘pen (at least initially). He’ll probably shadow Mitre in his next start.

I like him better out of the pen. He’s 5’10 and gave up 21 homers one season.
I think Lincecum should be in the pen to because he is also 5’10 or so…
Well I put it in the Boston series thread but I don’t think Chamberlain did terrible today he didn’t have any control and threw to many pitches (which only going 5 might not be bad for innings limit) but he really showed a lot of poise by not letting the game get out of control and he showed a lot of Moxie and pride by working himself through trouble and finishing the 5th inning to pick up win number 8. His Velocity wasn’t bad and his slider didn’t have terrible break but it looks like the extra rest might have hurt him since he had really no control and walked a career high 9 batters (even though the strike zone was small). Overall I grade his performance a C maybe a C- but he showed even i this start his potential to be a star by limiting damage against himself only giving up 4 runs and that is hard for a young pitcher to do and Joba does it well (it being limit damage when your stuff or control is lacking).
Joba pitched the way he did prior to the AS break. He worked slowly and shook off Jorge a lot. I think Posada was visibly upset with him, too. Not a good night Joba. I’d give him a D. The Yankees needed more (especially for their bullpen).
Legit #5 pitcher my @ass. Seen you in the ALCS
I don’t think a team with Michelle Hernandez as their best catcher can make it very far in the ALCS. I’m just saying…
Nice K rate against right handed hitters. He is under team control for next season as well. He might just be a very nice pen arm.
