Just came across this the other day on Baseball Almanac, and it’s full of amazing stuff. For all the stats that get thrown at you on a regular basis, these are the truly rare, truly special occurrences. They explain:

Turns out Melky’s cycle wasn’t as special or unique as I thought it was. Make sure to sift through those #1 draft picks as well, it’s always interesting to see how those guys panned out.

pretty cool stuff… I don’t know most of the guys on the #1 list from 1965 till the 80′s, except th emore famous ones, but it looks like in the past-10-15 yrs the #1 pverall pick has actually worked out pretty well. I mean, they’re not all stars, but at least they’ve made it in the majors, and haven’t been a bust like Brien Taylor….
