Just a quick item on the day. The Rockies have signed Russ Ortiz. Last week, Ortiz opted out of his minor-league contract with the Yankees and will join a Colorado club which has also signed our old friend, Jason Giambi. When the Yankees traded for Nick Swisher, a lot of fans were wondering why the team didn’t choose to bring back Jason Giambi, instead. I think that answer is pretty clear after Giambi’s miserable return to Oakland. Yikes.

I loved Giambi in his early years with the Yanks but as the years went I still liked him, as a person, not a player. His batting and fielding just diminished, very quickly and badly. I hope he does well with the Rockies. The Rockies are a team I particulalry like in the National League. It would be nice to see the Yankees VS. Rockies in the World Series, but that’s just a thought! Go Yankees!

Ok so I just got one reading an article which asked “who would you rather have going forward for the next 5 years, Cano or Pedroia? Not only did the Sox fan reading it pick Pedoria he put Cano under Brian Roberts as the 3rd best second baseman in the AL East. How can you even come close to picking Dustin? He won an MVP some how and that makes him the greatest second baseman in the game? Cano leads in every category with the exception of OBP because Pedroia walks slightly more, well it’s official he walks more must be a better player. Cano has the ability to hit .340 something Pedroia has never done and Cano has the power to hit 20-30 HRs something Pedroia will never be able to do, Pedroia is a better base stealer and can walk more so if Cano gets more selective then he is better in every category but stealing. Best part of the article is they sight his “leadership” and “winning mentality” as reasons for picking Dustin… what a crock, when Cano is hitting .320 in a few years and Dustin Pedroia’s 5-9 180 pound body is breaking down from to many baseball games we will see how much his “leadership” matters, heck ask Varitek how much leadership matters, hit leadership is sitting on the bench while Martinez out hits him.

I also read a debate on who’s top two is better Sabathia and Burnett or Beckett and Lester and the writers said it’s not even close and Lester and Becket win… how can this be the case when out number 2 pitcher out pitched your ace in there meeting in New york, and Lester may have better strike out stuff right now but he is no where near the pitcher Sabathia is at this point in there careers and these guys were trying to write Lester as the better lefty…

Cano needs to wake up! He is playing second like he did in years past just day dreaming in the infield! He has 3 errors in the last two weeks or so, he is out on his feet lately

    • The other Chris H says:

He made up for it with the HR, if Cano ever gets his concentration level up to that of a Derek Jeter he could be scary but I am afraid he is never going to make it to that kind of level his preformance may just be a .310 hitter.

      • The other Chris H says:

And he just un made up for it by making one of the worst defensive plays of the year for Cano! Either Tex should have taken control or Cano should have slowed himself way before making that play! Terrible defense and not very good pitching is going to undo this lead!

What the hell is Sabathia doing? He threw middle in fastball to Lowell which is a complete no no and he threw and outside pitch to Varitek which is dumber than throwing inside to Lowell, you just let the 3 worst Red Sox not named Alex Gonzalez (and he almost got a hit) beat you with two outs! throw away a two run lead to Rocco Baldelli and Jason Varitek!

    • The other Chris H says:

Sabathia is taking way to long in between pitches in this game it’s almost as if he doesn’t believe in himself in this game and he is trying to space out throwing to home, I mean comne on there is very little reason to check Jason Bay back at first.

      • The other Chris H says:

He is averaging 21 seconds in between each throw which is worse than Joba Chamberlain and dangerously close to Vicente Padilla and if you add in the fact that his inside pitch is getting jacked he really has no confidence in it at all!

        • Eric Schultz says:

He hasn’t gotten much help from Cano defensively. He has good velocity tonight.

          • The other Chris H says:

Yeah I dug him too! However over 100 pitches and getting all his inside stuff blasted hasn’t helped! However that is now the 5th bloop hit in this game! Why doesn’t Johnny play more shallow in left field like everyone else who has ever played that position in Fenway! Lets just give this win away please! This is one of the sloppiest series we have played in over 2 months! I am thoroughly disappointed in this whole trip to Boston even if we take 2 we should not feel good about this at all! Good teams don’t let their minds wonder and play sloppy baseball in BIG games!

Genius or Heel on taking Sabathia out in the 7th with Pedroia (1 career hit off of CC) up as the last out? We will find out right now…
