Trenton tops Altoona, 5-2
- Jeremy Bleich got the start, giving up 4 hits in 7 shutout innings, and striking out 5. This was probably Bleich’s best AA outing. While his 5.36 ERA is not pretty, the fact that he is in AA in his first season after being drafted is impressive.

- Jesus Montero, catching, was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, raising his average to .313.
- Chris Malec was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk.

Tampa tops Jupiter, 5-4 (7 innings, game 1)
- DJ Mitchell labored, giving up 4 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits in 3 innings, and struck out 1. His GO-AO rate was 6-2, so the sinker was working.

Staten Island’s game against Brooklyn was postponed
GCL Yanks tamed by Tigers, 2-1
- Daniel Gil started, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and a walk in 5 innings, with 6 strikeouts.
- Mariel Checo, the hardthrowing teenager from Washington Heights (and 41st-round draft pick this year), struck out 4 and gave up a hit and a walk in 2 shutout innings. The Yankees have him working out of the bullpen, and so far, so good, as he not been scored upon in 3 innings of work.
- Manny Barreda struck out 2 in 2 perfect innings of relief.
- Ramon Flores was 1 for 4.
- Jose Toussen was 1 for 3 with a walk.
- Kevin Mahoney was 1 for 4.
- Kelvin De Leon was 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.

In other news, Brett Marshall is set to have Tommy John Surgery. It’s too bad to see another promising pitching prospect going under the knife, as the Yankees as an organization must lead the world in Tommy John surgeries. Marshall’s struggles this season could be explained by his elbow, and with surgery, rest, and rehab, hopefully he can become the pitcher the Yankees envisioned when they drafted him.
