With the Yankees notching yet another walk-off won this afternoon, an interesting question popped into my head. As Robbie Cano walked to the plate, most Yankees fans were not expecting much from a guy hitting about .200 with RISP. My question is, who would you most want at the plate with the game on the line? Second and third, down one, two outs in the 9th, who do you hope is standing at the dish? And who would you hope is planted firmly on the bench?

Personally, I would like to see Jeter up there. Besides for his reputation in the clutch, he is the best pure hitter on the club. However, I could see an argument for pretty much anyone in this lineup. Who would you choose?

Numbah 2, Derek Jetah, Numbah 2.

I like Jeter but this year with Arod at the dish you just get a feeling he is going to get one to end the game… I agree though I really don’t think you can go wrong, Matsui and Posada were clutch yesterday, Cano today, Arod has had two walk off HRs, Melky has at least 4 of the 11 walk offs this year, Swisher tied a game up against the White sox with a HR with 2 outs in the 9th with none on just a few weeks ago, Damon is speaking softly and carrying a big stick this year… One through 9 this is the most dangerous Yankee line up I have seen in the clutch in a long time.

Arod because he is one of the greatest hitters in da history of the game but i understand completely why most people will go with jeter.

I would pick Damon 1st, then Melky, then Matsui, then Jeter, then Cano if he is red hot, then Tex, then A-Rod, then Posada.

I don’t know how you put Cano above Arod? Alex has two walk off HRs this year and I think another walk off hit giving him 3 to Robby’s first today.

    Damon or Matsui. Then Tex.

Does anyone realize that Johnny Damon is very quietly having the best power year of his career? A guy who’s career high in HRs is 24 is on pace to hit over 30 this year, and he already has as many doubles as the last two years (26 this year, 27 in the past 2 seasons each), and has 3 triples to boot. Having Damon hit in the 2 hole may have been one of the best decisions Girardi ever made towards impacting the power distribution in the line up… hitting lead off he wouldn’t have 20.

If nobody on base…A-Rod, man ISP-Jeter.

  7. Jd says:

Damon. Jeter hits into a DP or strikes out way too much.

Not Melky, even off this good season.

    Matsui isn’t getting much love.

I agree! I think Matsui is the most underrated Yankee. He has been so clutch all year long and he proved himself yet again tonight. Go Godzilla!

Texiera. He’s a solid ballplayer with tons of ability. And, he’s due for a walkoff!! Arod hits mistakes, and usually is outsmarted by the pitcher, jeter will keep it going usually, but not end it, and matsui tends to pull the outside pitch to 2nd base. This team tho shares the glory. Tex is in his prime and he’s smart. To me, this is the difference between this team and the rosters since 2002.

I love Damon too actually. He hits good pitches.
