Yanks tried to trade for Francoeur
From Jon Heyman, not only do we learn that the Blue Jays have said to the Yankees and the Red Sox that they would rather not trade Roy Halladay within their division (not surprising news), we also learn that the Yankees tried to trade for Jeff Francoeur House of Fury movie download during the offseason. Here’s what Heyman had to say on the trade that never was.

The Yankees tried to trade for Jeff Francoeur this winter, perhaps with the intention of flipping him elsewhere (Kansas City?), but were told no by the Braves because of Francoeur’s popularity in his hometown of Atlanta. But Francoeur’s continuing offensive struggles gave the Braves little choice.
I bet the Braves are regretting that decision. Francoeur has great upside, but he has fallen apart offensively (defensively, he’s a disappointment, too). This non-trade makes me wonder—were the Yankees attempting to acquire Francoeur before or after the Nick Swisher trade? It doesn’t really make sense if they were doing it before the Swisher trade, as Xavier Nady was expected to be the RF with Damon in LF. Perhaps they were going after Francoeur so that he could play the OF while Nady was relocated to first base (if they missed out on Mark Teixeira)? As you can see, a Francoeur trade would have been a confusing move, which could explain why Heyman speculates on the “flip Francoeur” idea. Either way, I’m glad the move didn’t happen given how terrible Francoeur has been. He probably wouldn’t have been worth whatever we traded for him.

I am glad we didn’t get him… what a nut job, I really doubt he will revive his numbers in New York with the Mets let alone in New York with the Yankees.
This is going to be one weird trade deadline for the Yankees because at this point I am 90% sure that the deadline is going to come and go without one move being made by the Yankees of any importance to the major league club. They may trade a minor league player for another like with Sanchez but as far as big club moves I don’t see them giving up prospects for a bat not named Upton and the Dbacks wont even listen to discussions on him and the only arm available worth mentioning would cost an arm an a leg and our main two chips are now on the DL. I don’t see much hope for a WS ring this year but I do expect to compete and at least make another team work in the playoffs to win a ring.
