From Steve Kornacki (Mlive.com):

Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland confirmed today that the New York Yankees have interest in outfielder Josh Anderson, whom Detroit has 10 days since Friday to assign to another team via trade or have clear waivers before possibly sending him out-right to Triple-A Toledo.”It’s a possibility,” Leyland said. “They are interested. I think one other club is interested.”

Anderson is basically a fourth outfielder that can play center, right and left. He’s got good range and is a very capable defender. His biggest asset is his speed, though, as he has stolen 13 bases this year and has only been caught twice (his speed is also a big part of his defensive game). He’s like Brett Gardner except Gardner is a better player from both a defensive and offensive standpoint. I’m not sure what the Yankees would have to give up in order to get Anderson, nor do I think he is necessary. However, with Gardner out, this could indicate that the Yankees are worried about their outfield defense, especially late in games, as well as their lack of bench speed, which Girardi likes to have at his disposal.

I’m not sure how this move works for the future because he probably takes Ransom’s spot on the 40 man and when Gardner comes back I guess they send one of the pitchers down otherwise you have to DFA the guy two weeks after trading for him but if you keep him you have 6 outfielders with Melky, Gardner, Damon, Swisher, Hinske and Anderson. Melky and Gardner aren’t going to triple A and Damon, Hinske and Swisher aren’t being DFA anytime soon meaning Anderson is the odd man out again.. seems like a waste especially when you still have a need for a starter and a late inning bull pen pitcher.

With Bruney looking this bad I say a quality righty is more important than a defensive upgrade in the outfield for two weeks.

Bruney is awful. I’m sorry, but he just cannot be trusted. We’re seeing the 2007 version and the version the Diamondbacks didn’t like rather than the 2008 version (his ’08 was, I think, was brought on by some good luck).

Yeah his control is slowly going the way of Jose Veras, he can chunk it up at 95 but he either puts it out of the strikezone or right down the middle…. he may be the next guy DFA but I think he should get a chance to turn it around.

I don’t think Bruney is going anywhere soon…Command and Control is the last thing to come back after a lay-off.
Anderson sounds like a good fit…for awhile.
