MLBTR (via Dejan Kovacevic) is reporting that Ian Snell, along with Jack Wilson, has been traded to the Mariners for Ronny Cedeno, Jeff Clement (who never got enough playing time, in my opinion), Brett Lorin, Aaron Pribanic, and Nathan Adcock. I guess this means Ian Snell won’t be joining the Yankees and that they’ll have to look for pitching depth elsewhere (not that he was at the top of the list, of course). The trade is strange for Seattle, though. I thought that they were sellers? Hmmm….

UPDATE - It looks like Cliff Lee is headed to the Phillies.

Maybe this gives them room to shed Washburn…

Could be. Or maybe they’ll hang onto him and take a shot at the Wild Card (doubtful)?

Not sure what’s going on, really. Pretty interesting stuff.

Philly seems to have acquired Cliff Lee. That removes the main suitor for Halladay. I’m wavering in my earlier opposition to dealing for him. I would try to make Montero the centerpiece of a deal, without surrendering either Joba or Hughes. Montero has an elite bad, so this would hurt, but I think the organization has great depth at catcher (Romine would be major-league ready about as soon as Montero) and could afford the loss.

Moshe: Talk me down from this reckless move….

I really don’t think trading Montero is smart and with the Phillies now being out of it the Jays have no leverage I would call the Jays and offer them Hughes, Jackson and Romine and if they don’t want that package short of adding one guy forget about Halladay all together!
