Yesterday it was announced that Sergio Mitre will take the ball

The Ewok Adventure divx

against the Orioles on Tuesday. Alfredo Aceves will move back into the bullpen and, while a corresponding move has yet to be made (obviously), the Yankees could move Xavier Nady from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL in order to free up roster space.

So much for being deep in starting pitching. A career 81 ERA+ sounds a lot like what we’ve done the previous several seasons.

I’d have rather gone with Kei Igawa. At least he’s a lefty, Mitre gets killed by left handed hitting, not a good thing at the Stadium.

    • DaveinMD says:

Igawa is an extreme flyball pitcher with poor command. No thanks.

      • The other Chris H says:

I think his problem is that he was a top notch strike out pitcher in Japan who could pitch up in the zone with ease but in the states his stuff translates more to a ground ball pitcher who needs to pitch down and I don’t think anyone ever put it in his head he had to change his philosophy.

        • DaveinMD says:

His problem is that he doesn’t have consistent command and throws high changeups. He wasn’t even that good in Japan.

I actually think Mitre is going to do alright against the Orioles I’m not sure why but I keep picturing 6IP and 3ER and if he can turn in that performance we can win easy with there pitching staff.
