). He is probably going to remain with the team until the player he replaces is eligible to return, unless he impresses and finds a way to remain with the big club. He is likely to replace Jon Albaladejo or David Robertson, but there is no confirmation as to the corresponding move as of yet. Robertson has pitched fairly well and has really not done anything to merit being sent down. Conversely, Albie paid his dues in the minors and has looked good since returning. I do not envy Brian Cashman this decision. However, if Melancon pitches well, you may see the player that is sent down return in exchange for Brett Tomko after the All Star break anyhow, so it may be a brief demotion.

Update: Two other options are possible now that I have given this a bit more thought. They could send Aceves down, as they have already ruled him out until after the ASB. He could return in ten days, which would mean they would only lose him for one series. The second possibility is that the Yankees send Phil Hughes down to have him start after the break. This is entirely dependent on the condition of Chien-Ming Wang’s shoulder.

Robertson has stopped throwing strikes his last two outings. I’d guess its him.

I don’t think he should be sent down off two appearances. His numbers are very good, and he has pitched pretty well in the back of the pen.

I think they’ll DFA Tomko. Girardi never uses him, which tells you something.

Aceves starting did noty work this turn.
