Ian Kennedy’s rehab is going well and he hasn’t felt any discomfort since he began his program. He’s trying to pitch in a minor-league game before the end of the season, but that obviously may not occur. He is, however, expected to pitch in Puerto Rico this winter, barring any setbacks. It’ll be interesting to see what the Yankees do with IPK once he starts pitching again (in games). Will they try to build up his value and then move him or will he remain with the team?

I see the Yankees keeping Kennedy around like a Clay Buchholz for Boston have a decent arm in triple A in case a Wang or someone goes down and if no one does have a pretty decent trade chip at next years break once he has proved this is all behind him.

They’ll keep him for depth reason.

I don’t even see him as depth.

I agree the guy is no ace of a staff but he has some decent stuff and gets guys out very well at the minor league level. I also agree that he would flourish in an Aceves like role next year in the pen, I don’t however see him being a great starter down the road maybe a number or an emergency 4.

I see Kennedy filling the Aceves role next year. Put him in the pen and let him gain confidence to become an asset.

WHY WOULDN’T ACEVES PLAY THE ACEVES ROLE NEXT YEAR?
I doubt Kennedy will even be on the team next season.

Aceves would probably take more of a set up role next year seeing as how Hughes is going back to the rotation and even if he isn’t totally in the 8th inning he won’t be able to pitch the long relief innings and come in for downed starters because his innings will be important ones. With that said you need someone who can step in and be a long relief guy and go two innings sometime and 3 at others, helping downed starters a long the way which is what Aceves has been doing. If Kennedy isn’t on the team it will be because of trade and no one will want him until they see he can pitch in games so he has to at least start with the team in some level of the orginization (aka triple a).

Because he is a starter! Aceves if not included in a trade for a left handed bat could be one of the Yankees 5 starters next year depending on Wang’s health.

Kennedy has always shown good stuff in the minors and just needs to gain that same confidence with the Yankees. Putting him in the pen could be a good situation for him to grow into a good MLB pitcher.

Aceves is perfect for hid current role. He’ll stay in it as may Hughes in his role.

Aceves is a starting MLB pitcher and not a pen arm. He will not be used in the same role next year. He is just to valuable as a cost effective starting pitcher. 400K for a viable starter is going to attract a lot of attention in the off season.
