.!.

Braveheart hd Alex Rodriguez has quite the reputation among many Yankees fans for being “unclutch,” constantly failing in the big spot and coming through only when the team needs him least. The idea that runs in the 1st inning count just as much as runs in the 9th is generally ignored, as it is easier to just vilify the man who has become the symbol for the ineptitude of the post-dynasty Yankees. However, A-Rd is quietly putting together an incredibly clutch season, as his big home run off Justin Verlander yesterday displayed. His OPS with RISP is .936, compared to .902 with the bases empty. His numbers with the game close are excellent.

The House on the Edge of the Park move

OPS, Late and Close: 1.328
High Leverage: 1.080

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning full Quite frankly, those numbers are spectacular. Alex has been incredibly clutch thus far in 2009, although I am sure many of the A-Rod haters have not noticed. So take note, Yankees fans. In 2009, Alex is coming through when it matters most.

I like A-Rod but until he replicates these numbers in the playoffs I don’t think that anyone will rethink the clutch issue.

Well I believe 9 or 10 of his 19 HRs have either tied or put the Yankees ahead this year, and since I have watched most of them I can say they came in very big situations and a lot of times with 2 outs. I would also like to add that the whole team has really done a good job improving on being clutch and hitting with RISP with 2 outs. Last year it was basically just a 2 out game because once they got the second out whoever was up next just fort of gave up now everyone is staying focused and hitting when it matters most.

The problem with him is in the playoffs. Until he proves otherwise, he will be thought of, whether rightly or wrongly, as un-clutch.

If Mo did his job in 2004, this wouldn’t be an issue. He’s had good moments in the playoffs, but his teammates haven’t done their job.

Well he has broken the tie in scoreless games against the Sox twice in this series with a HR and this time off of Jon Lester!
