Mike Axisa over at River Ave Blues posted his mid-season top-30 reranking. I traditionally do one before the draft, and will have my own ranking up on Monday. We differ on some prospects but agree on most others. You can find my pre-season ranking here The Minus Man movie download .

There is going to be a lot of movement on everyone’s top-30 lists this year. As usual, the Yankee 10-30 has turned over quite a bit, with some formerly written off prospects gaining grown while new guys start to push their way in. But there seems to be much more movement this year, and much more space to disagree. Look for my list on Monday.

Brandon Laird is a better prospect than a lot of those guys.
It’s basically a list of the obvious.

Firstly, Laird isn’t hitting this year, the higher level is giving him trouble. Couple that with the fact that he has no position, and he is not a great prospect. And in regard to being obvious, shouldn’t that be the case with a good list? Should he make up some stuff to make lesser prospects whose names are less known look good?

What does having a slow start have to do with being a Prospect?
Laird has bloodlines, breeding, power and is projected to hit for average too.
    No position?
I have read that after changing his body last year, he played a very good 3rd base and can play first competently also.
Because we have AROD, the guy has isn’t a prospect and has no position?
    Does Montero have a position?
I think not and he’s the top prospect because he can hit.
AND, yes, projecting prospects because you see something in them that hasn’t translated to the field yet would IMO give the guy more credibility than listing some of those mediocre guys on the list as top 30 prospects.
    What are we learning there?

    • Moshe Mandel says:

Laird was never considered a great prospect. He did not make even honorable mention on John Sickels’ list. Laird’s only attribute was his bat outplaying his projections, which is no longer the case. he hit at the lower level to raise him a bit, but it has not carried over. Montero’s bat would play in the majors right now, big difference.
In regard to the list, you are being silly if you want him to make something up that has not translated. If he does not see something in a player, he shouldn’t be on the list.
