From Joel Sherman:

Here is what it moved me to say: I hope he is doing this clean. That is near impossible to know since, for example, HGH is not tested for. But if he is doing this clean — and, again, let’s hope so — it would reassert how foolish he was to ever play dirty and raise doubts about all of his accomplishments, including those in the present tense.

This is how it is going to be for the rest of Alex’s career. He hits a few home runs in row, and the doubts and questions will begin. He breaks down and does not hit a homer for a while, and people will wonder whether the steroids have broken his body. He took the steroids and he brought some of this upon himself. The fact that everyone was doing it does not absolve the users. That being said, I do not recall any articles like this about Andy Pettitte or Jason Giambi. The media can question Alex’s performance all they want. Just show a little consistency, Joel. Let’s see the same article about Andy Pettitte following his next good start.

  1. Harry G says:

I’m sure Joel’s retort would be that And or Jason aren’t approaching the “sacred/holy” records that Alex is approaching, therefore no one is interested in debating whether they’re clean or not.

  2. DaveinMD says:

Sherman has an axe to grind because he is a friend of Selena Roberts. He has admitted this several times. Beyond that, he is a horrible writer.

  3. Ron E. says:

Can we just all agree that Joel Sherman hates the Yankees?
