-Cano looks amazing in the field and at the plate. Forget about the results, because its too small of a sample size, but he’s hitting the ball hard the opposite way and swinging at good pitches. Neither of which we saw much of last year.

-Keep an eye on Swisher getting some of Matsui’s ABs. Swisher has been terrific outside of a fielding miscue yesterday. Matsui is running at 3/4 speed, and has looked bad at the plate so far.

-Nice to see Andy throwing his slider again yesterday. If he’s healthy, he should win 16 games. If we get that many wins out of our 4th starter, were looking at a tremendous season.

-The quality and depth of this starting rotation will make it very hard for the Yanks to have any extended losing streaks.

-Ian Kennedy was off the charts in Scranton last night, posting a line of 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB,  11 K, 2-5 GB/FB – 68 of 86 pitches were for strikes (79.1%)

-Dellin Betances dominated in Tampa, posting 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 5-6 GB/FB. He was actually even better than his line implies. He walked the first batter he faced, who stole 2nd and 3rd base, then scored on a grounder. Gave up very little after that. Main thing to watch with Dellin are the walks, and 2 per start is fine, especially since he usually doesn’t get hit much. Though Dellin still has to work on holding runners on. 3 of the 5 men who reached stole a base, one of them twice.

My guess is that Matsui’s knees don’t like the cold weather. I want to see how he does down in St Pete next week. But yeah, I wouldn’t mind seeing Swisher DH for the next couple games in KC.

    Completely agree with that.

Its great to see IPK boosting his trade value like that… Did u see the line on DJ Mitchell @ low A Charleston last night? Impressive, he was their 10th round pick, is he a legitimate prospect?

I suspect the Yanks are letting him start to gain experience for a future role in the bigs as a reliever. At 6’0″ 170, he doesn’t exactly have a starter’s frame. He was used out of the pen in college, so factor that in as well.

Also, don’t be so sure IPK is trade bait. He might be, but these things can change in a hurry. Hughes has been injury prone over the past few years, and IPK’s ceiling is higher than Aceves. If Hughes gets hurt and the Yanks need a starter, don’t be surprised if its IPK. If he does well, he won’t be going anywhere.

Dellin has gotten the pitchers “Super Star” move to 1st…NONE, very seldom were runners on base, until he became a pro. He still has a lot of time to learn how to be a pitcher.

Can’t Tex still play some 3rd base?
Swish & Tex at the corners?
