The middle of the Yankees order has been a bit weak to start the season, as Alex Rodriguez has yet to take the field and Mark Teixeira has been hampered by a wrist injury. Here are updates on the status of both players, plus a tidbit on Xavier Nady.

Rodriguez took full batting practice for the first time and took 49 cuts, connecting for 3 home runs. Although his official return date remains May 15th, it seems clear that he should be back at least a week before that barring any setbacks.

The news on Tex is not as encouraging. His left wrist continues to ail him, as the inflammation has yet to subside. Marc Carig reports that Tex received a cortisone shot after the game yesterday, and is hopeful that it will help put him over the top.

Peter Abraham checks in with the news that there is a chance that Xavier Nady may be able to avoid major surgery. If he does so, it would lessen the Yankees need to go out and sign somebody who can hit off the bench.
