From Bryan Hoch:

The Yankees made six roster moves prior to today’s game:

Phil Hughes, Steven Jackson and Anthony Claggett were optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Humberto Sanchez was optioned to Double-A Trenton.

Additionally, Jason Johnson and Sergio Mitre have been sent across the street to Minor League camp. Brian Cashman said there just aren’t enough innings to go around this late in camp.

I’m sure we’ll see Phil Hughes again this season…

How much longer does Hughes have until we give up on him. I think he needs to show some serious progress this year when he gets his shot. And i have already given up on IPK he just needs to do well enough to get traded.

PHIL HUGHES IS 22 YEARS OLD.
IAN KENNEDY IS 24 YEARS OLD.

thanks for their ages but your point is?

        • Casanova Wong says:

It is both foolish and idiotic to give up on 2 pitchers that young. Conservatively speaking I’d say less than %5 of mlb pitchers have success @ mlb level before the age of 23 like joba, lincecum of king felix. Those guys are the exception to the rule not the rule. Your bar is set ridiculously high if you want to dump these guys after a bad 40 innings last year.

I did say i wanted hughes to do something this year so i havent given up on him yet but i think most fans look at him with irrational optimism. And IPK doesnt have the stuff to be any better than a #5 starter so he’s expendable rather.

But you never answered my original question, how much more time do you think they should have?

    Ace II,

    Come on!!

    • Ace II says:

Come on JD. I just want to know how long we are supposed to give them to make the leap like….a la Joba showing they can be successful on the big stage.

Question-are you saying he either becomes a successful MLB pitcher this year or we should cut him? Or trade him? Or what?
