RLYW compiled all of the major projection systems’ forecasts for Jorge Posada, and the results are a bit muddied due to Jorge’s uncertain health status. The average of all of the projections provides for very good triple slash numbers, coming in at .277/ .385/.448. However, the systems predict that Jorge will only notch 380 at bats, resulting in low counting numbers such as 22 2B’s, 12 HR’s, and 53 RBI’s. I think that solid predictions in terms of rate statistics are the important point here, as trying to forecast injuries is often an exercise in futility. I think those rate numbers are spot on, and I would expect them to translate into something like 30 2B’s, 18 HR’s, and 80 RBI’s.

What kind of numbers do you expect from Jorge?

The problem with predicting Posada’s season rests 1) on his shoulder holding up(obviously); but also, 2) how well Girardi does in balancing the work load between Posada and Molina. Molina really does need to be in the lineup against the faster, running teams like Tampa. His defense in those situations will prevent far more runs than Posada can produce. Luckily, we are in the AL, which at least in the past, has had less emphasis on the running game. If Jorge can catch 100-110 games and remain healthy, I think your numbers are reasonable.
