Joba Chamberlain looked much better in his third start of the spring, sitting in the low 90′s with his fastball and spotting his curveball and slider with command. Joba threw 29 pitches (20 for strikes), allowed one run on three hits with no walks and 3 strike outs.

Joba’s proving to be something of a slow starter. Brian Cashman said earlier today in an interview with Michael Kay that he followed a similar pattern last spring training.

Brett Gardner misplayed a fly ball into a run scoring triple in the third, but made up for it with an RBI single in the bottom of the third, scoring Ramiro Pena.

Welcome, Steve. Good game for Joba, great game for the relief. Phil Coke and Kei Igawa have looked strong this spring.

  2. Moshe Mandel says:

The panic over Joba was ridiculous. It was the first two games of spring, one of which was in February. Oh, and Gardner is fun to watch, although he did make a fielding mistake and a baserunning blunder tonight.

Wouldn’t it be funny if Igawa had a decent MLB career after all the ridicule (a lot of it from Yankee fans.)

  4. EJ Fagan says:

Igawa’s problem I think from now on is going to be lack of opportunity. Any success at Triple-A will be old news – he’s been great there. But the Yankees aren’t adding him to the 40-man short of a total breakdown.

Yup. They really should figure out a trade. They won’t really get anything, but they might as well cut their losses and get something for him while they can (he’d be a good back-end starter in the NL).
