The Yankees lost 6-2 to the Blue Jays today, as Andy Pettitte made his spring debut, holding the Jays to 1 hit over 1.2 IP (2 K, 1 BB). The best part of his outing was that he felt great afterward. Dan Giese gave up a run in relief and Ian Kennedy got hammered in the worst way, giving up 5 ER over 2.2 IP. In his previous outing against Atlanta, IPK gave up 2 ER over 3 innings of work and now has an ERA of 8.22 (feel free to jump into Moshe’s thread and bash the guy — just kidding).

Though the pitching and offense (2 runs) wasn’t as strong as they could have been, Brett Gardner definitely came to play, hitting his third HR of the spring. He finished the day going 2-for3 with 2 RBI — sorry Melky.

Brett Gardner is so fast that one time he ran around the world and punched himself behind the head!

Still think Melky being out of options is going to play a big role in the final decision.

I am cautiously optimistic about Brett Gardner in Centerfield. If he does win the job and he play well what about Austin Jackson?

    • Moshe Mandel says:

He would need to have a great year for them to turn Jackson into a trade chip. Even then, they might try Jackson in a corner.
