The Yankees sent Kanekoa Teixeira, J.B. Cox, and George Kontos to their minor league camp today, and exercised their option on Andrew Brackman by sending him to Single-A Charleston. This is the first round of many cuts that the Yankees will make this spring. You’d like to see Cox, Teixeira, and Kontos stick around for longer, but they are so far down the depth charts at their respective positions that I’m sure the Yankees decided that they needed to trade a few more looks at them for more playing time in order to further their development.

If Andrew Brackman does indeed start the year for Charleston (sometimes roster issues cause players to be temporarily optioned to different minor league teams), then the Yankees may have less confidence in the advancement of his abilities than previously thought. He’ll be rather old for a prospect in low-A, but will have more leeway to learn the art of pitching down there. The Yankees, rightly, probably decided that getting Brackman healthy innings was more important than challenging opponents.

Yeah, he needs to just pitch and get his mechanics in line, they seem to be a mess. Who is in the Tampa rotation? Betances, DeLaRosa, Bleich, Heredia and…..?

McAllister, I would guess. Can’t see the Yankees letting him start in AA after only half a season in Tampa.

      • Moshe Mandel says:

Even if he starts in Tampa, I cant see him being there long.

Even though he only pitched half a season in Tampa he dominated- 88.2 IP 62K 13BB 1.83 ERA 0.98 WHIP. Yet he only finished the season in Tampa with an 8-6 record, another reason why using wins as a measure of a pitchers quality is bullcrap.

De La Rosa could be in Trenton, we’re not sure.

Actually, I’ll try and write a post on this. Expect something in the next hour.

    Yay, first round of cuts.
