Pete Abe cites an ESPN Deportes report that claims that A-Rod will miss 10 weeks after surgery to remove a cyst from his hip. Enrique Rojas is often wrong, so confirmation from other sources is necessary. This is ominous news for a team and player that needs a hot start. I will update when we hear more.

Update: For what it is worth, SI.com is reporting that it will cause him to miss 6-8 weeks.

4 Responses to ESPN Deportes: A-Rod to Miss 10 Weeks

  1. EJ Fagan says:

I’m calling B.S. on this one. 10 weeks for the removal of a benign bump? I’m no doctor, but that seems absurd.

Regardless, Arod should have handled this during the offseason.

    • Moshe Mandel says:

Word. If it hurt at the end of last season, shouldn’t they have checked it out then?

    • Anthony G. says:

The team, not A-Rod should have handled this during the offseason. If Girardi knew about the hip discomfort last year, then the training and medical staff did as well. If A-Rod ends up missing April, someone in the Yankees medical crew has to feel some wrath on this one. Absolutely inexcusable because Rodriguez should not have missed a day of the 2009 season.

      • Moshe Mandel says:

Unless it is the kind of thing that does not show up in a typical exam, and comes and goes. If he tells you his hip is tight, and then says it passed, you would not give him an MRI. Maybe it is no one’s fault.
