It’s been so long since we’ve heard from Alex Rodriguez – almost three whole days – but the Star Ledger broke the interminable silence Wednesday night when the Yankees GM relayed the third baseman’s morale.

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is in “good spirits,” according to general manager Brian Cashman, who spoke with the injured star on Tuesday night.

Cashman said the slugger continues to ride an exercise bike during his recovery from Monday’s arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip.

Manager Joe Girardi said Rodriguez left him an upbeat message Tuesday night.

“He sounded good,” Girardi reported. “Said: ‘I’m doing well.’ Good to hear from him.”

He is expected to spend a few weeks rehabilitating in Colorado, then will return to the Yankees’ spring training complex in Florida when he is ready for baseball drills.

If anyone is going to come back early from having their hip scoped it’s A-Rod. However, in the meantime, hopefully somebody with him in Colorado is keeping Rodriguez on a leash and not allowing him to overexert a surgically repaired labrum.

Hopefully he can kick back, relax, listen to some Madonna records…

Right, maybe he will decide the quickest way back on the field is to shoot himself up with more steroids. Please do us a favor and understand that us hardcore Yankee fans will never like this guy, are forced to root for him, and the last thing anyone should do is try and sympathize for him or make him out to be a hard worker who needs someone to keep him on a leash!

So those of us who like A-Rod, or acknowledge that he is a hard worker, we are not hardcore Yankees fans?

    • Anthony G. says:

That statement was neither pro or anti Alex Rodriguez, it’s merely stating a widely accepted fact that A-Rod works as hard or harder than anyone else in the sport and that he may over-do his rehab because of that fact.

So your reaction is major LOGIC FAIL.

Liking or disliking A-Rod has nothing to do with being a Yankees fan. Many Yankees fans disliked Reggie Jackson when he was a Yankee because of his selfish ways, but that didn’t make them bad Yankee fans.

The fact of the matter is should A-Rod help bring back a couple World Series rings during the remaining nine years on his contract Yankee fans who said they “will never like this guy” like, ahem, BillyBall, will quickly change their tune.

I’ve been a die hard Yankee fan since the late 50s, and like Alex as much as any Yankee over that span.
Nobody is ‘forcing’ you to root for him.

Fan sense 1948, I guess that puts me into the hard-core fan group. Older fans can see history repeating itself (as it always does). Back in the day, (always wanted to say that) Mickey was savaged by the press…how dare he try supplanting the great Joe.D.
Mickey had the same problem as A-Rod is having now, some don’t want A-Rod to over shadow Jeter, as he has. He is the highest paid and one of the best around, plus his biggest sin…he plays for the hated Yankees. No one ever said he was the smartest guy in the world, he lives his life just as most of us do…making mistakes along the line.
I for one, respect what he brings to the team, one always talks about “grit”, “hard work” and “giving the extra effort” these all can be said of him. If not looked after, he will work to hard trying to come back to soon, he and Posada tried that last year.
