The cyst-injury isn’t considered a serious problem in relation to Alex’s overall performance, though you wonder if the constant “stiffness” bothered him over the course of the season.

Maybe the Yankees are just making a big deal about this now because of the comments he made about Reyes. It’s possible they are just trying to get him back in camp where they think they can control him.
